Building permits and zoning

Checked against the source Sunday, September 6, 2026

Aledo takes permit applications, plans, fees and inspection requests through its GovWell portal, and asks applicants first to confirm the property is inside the city limits, since an Aledo mailing address does not mean city jurisdiction. Zoning questions go to the city planner; the Ledger's address lookup settles the limits question. What the city's pages say, checked Sept. 6, 2026.

How do I apply for a permit?

Through GovWell, the city's online portal: apply for building, health and other city permits, register as a contractor, submit plans and documents, pay fees, schedule inspections, track status and message staff, per the city's permits page. Code-enforcement concerns can be reported there too.

Is my property even in the city?

The city says to confirm that before applying: an Aledo mailing address does not necessarily mean the property is within the city's jurisdiction, and it points to its jurisdiction map. The Ledger's address lookup checks the city limits from Census boundary files.

Who do I ask?

The permit technician, Alice Fross, 817-441-7016 ext. 4201, permits@aledotx.gov, for permits, health permits and jurisdiction; the building official, Kevin Turner, 469-991-7837, kturner@aledotx.gov; and for zoning, land use, rezonings, subdivisions and site plans, the city planner, Grant Fore, (817) 231-7396, planning@aledotx.gov, all per the city's pages.

How does a zoning change work?

Planning and Zoning reviews development proposals and zoning requests against the comprehensive plan, the zoning regulations and the development standards, per the city; the commission holds the public hearings and the council makes the final decision. The rules are the Unified Development Code and the design standards, linked below, and the fees are in the fee schedule.

Also

  • Every amendment to the development code since November 2025 is on the Ledger's thread, and every commission recommendation is on its hub page.
  • Solicitor permits and alcohol-sale permits are issued by the city secretary's office, per the city's menu.
