Write for the Ledger
Paid by the pieceThe record tells what was decided. Contributors tell what happened: the game from the sideline, the fundraiser, the opening, the person behind a project. The Ledger pays a set fee per published piece, credits the writer by name, and reads everything before it runs.
What we assign
Bearcats and other Aledo ISD sports from the stands, community events, business openings, school and civic projects, and profiles of people doing public things. Not crime, accidents or lawsuits, which run under separate rules.
How it works
Pitch through the submission form under "Story idea for a contributor," or write to editor@aledoledger.com. Agree a piece and a fee before reporting. File within two days of the event with the names spelled as the people spell them, a line for each quote saying who and when, and photos you took with the consent of anyone identifiable. The publisher reads it; if it needs a change, you make it; then it runs with your byline and you are paid.
The rules you work under
Identify yourself as writing for the Ledger. Quote people only with their knowledge. Name minors only as their school, team or parents already have in public. Never write about your own family, business or organization. The standards page governs; it is short.
