How to speak at a meeting

When does the Aledo City Council meet?
On the first and third Thursday of the month at City Hall; the planning and zoning commission on the second Thursday. Agendas post on the city's CivicClerk portal at least 72 hours before.
When does the Aledo ISD board meet?
Once a month, usually on a Monday evening at the administration building on Bailey Ranch Road, with workshops and special meetings as posted. Agendas post on BoardBook.
How does public comment work?
Both bodies take public comment near the start of the meeting for anyone who signs up before it begins. The school board's policy BED(Local), amended in August 2017, allows up to 60 minutes of comment per meeting; each agenda states the per-speaker limit. Under the Open Meetings Act, members may not deliberate on a subject that is not on the posted agenda, so comments on other subjects get a reply only where the law allows.
How do I get something on the agenda?
At the district, one trustee may place an item on the agenda under board policy, a rule the board kept in 2017 after considering a two-trustee requirement. At the city, requests go through the city secretary.

Read the agenda and the packet, which the Ledger links from every meeting page and from the calendar. Sign the speaker card at the door. Say which item you are speaking on. Bring a written copy if you have numbers; the minutes record who spoke, not what was said.
