Aledo

Bearcats open the Class 6A home schedule tonight against Waco Midway

Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Tim Buchanan Stadium. Aledo is 0-1 after a 26-0 loss at North Crowley, its first shutout since 2003, and district play starts Sept. 18 at Granbury.

Aledo plays its first home game of the season tonight, hosting Waco Midway at 7 p.m. at Tim Buchanan Stadium. The Bearcats opened the year Aug. 28 at North Crowley and lost 26-0, the program's first shutout since a 17-0 playoff loss to Denton Ryan in 2003.

This is Aledo's first season in Class 6A. The UIL moved the 12-time state champion up in its February realignment after the high school's enrollment snapshot of about 2,400 cleared the 6A cutoff. The Bearcats now play in District 3-6A alongside Arlington Martin, Arlington Bowie, Arlington, Arlington Sam Houston and Arlington Lamar, plus Weatherford and Granbury. Aledo carries a 135-game district winning streak into the new league; its last district loss was Oct. 5, 2007.

After tonight, Aledo travels to Euless Trinity on Sept. 11 before opening district play at Granbury on Sept. 18. Weatherford, the county rivalry and a district game for the first time, is at home on Oct. 23. The regular season ends Nov. 6 at home against Lamar.

Gates at Buchanan Stadium open an hour before kickoff, parking lots open at 4:30 p.m., and the district enforces a clear-bag policy. Aledo's home games are listed on the NFHS Network; tickets for road games are sold by the host district.
