What the sales tax is made of
Checked against the source Sunday, September 6, 2026On every taxable dollar spent in Aledo, 8.25 cents is tax: 1.5 cents to the City of Aledo and 0.5 cent to Parker County, per the Comptroller's city rate table, and the remaining 6.25 cents to the state. The city's share funds the general fund and its economic development corporation. Checked Sept. 6, 2026.
How is 8.25 percent split?
The Comptroller's city rate table lists Aledo (local code 2184053) at a local rate of 1.5 percent and a total rate of 8.25 percent, with Parker County at 0.5 percent. The balance, 6.25 percent, is the state's rate: that figure is the Ledger's subtraction from the table, not a line on it.
Where does the city's share go?
Part of the city's sales tax funds the Aledo Economic Development Corporation, whose board approves incentive agreements and grant programs, per the council and EDC minutes on the Ledger's EDC hub. The city's adopted budget accounts for the remainder; the Ledger's budget thread carries each adoption.
How much does that raise?
The Comptroller sends the city its share monthly; the Ledger's sales-tax series shows each month's allocation and the year-over-year change, from the Comptroller's open data.
