Compiled from the record with an editorFriday: the National Weather Service has Parker County under a Wind Advisory from 4 a.m. to 7 p.m. CDT, north winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph, on a burn-ban day and the night the Bearcats (3-3, 2-1) play at Arlington at 7; Aledo swept the District 3-6A cross country titles Thursday, the boys with a perfect 15; Aledo ISD and the Walsh family announced a donation of nearly 13 acres on Quail Meadow Drive for a future elementary site; the Forest Service list dropped to 151 counties, Parker still on it; Annetta has posted its approved Sept. 17 minutes; and Willow Park's $10.1 million road bond for the Squaw Creek Road area goes to voters with early voting starting Monday
Why it matters. The Wind Advisory is a government warning on a burn-ban day: NWS says unsecured outdoor items may be blown around, driving may become difficult especially for high-profile vehicles, and small tree limbs could break and cause damage.
Weekend: Aledo-Fest is Saturday, 1 to 5 p.m., at the high school, sunny with a high near 62. Annetta's mayor reminded residents of the Mayor's Annual Milkweed Seed Event on Oct. 17. Early voting for Nov. 3 runs Monday through Oct. 30.

Burn ban: Parker County remains one of 151 counties on the Texas A&M Forest Service list stamped 10/15/2026 8:24:17 AM, down from 153 on the list stamped 10/14/2026 8:17:08 AM
Between the two lists, Blanco, Dallas, Kleberg and Swisher came off, and Coryell and Upshur went on, the Ledger's comparison of the two files. Of Parker County's neighbors, Tarrant, Palo Pinto, Wise, Jack, Erath and Somervell are on the list and Hood, Denton and Johnson are not. Today's Wind Advisory makes this a high-risk day for an escaped fire.

Aledo ISD and Walsh announced a donation of nearly 13 acres fronting Quail Meadow Drive in the Walsh community for a future elementary school site, the second elementary site the Walsh family has given the district, The Community News reported Oct. 15
Per the story, the district takes the land at "little impact (only closing costs)" on the land budget in the 2023 bond. The first Walsh donation became Mary D. and F. Howard Walsh Elementary, which opened in August 2017. In the last two years the district has also acquired 40 acres from the Beggs Ranch in Willow Park's ETJ and a 12-acre elementary site near Kelly Road and Bear Creek Road in Kelly Ranch Estates, and it owns about 100 acres northeast of McKinney Elementary and about 20 acres next to the Daniel Ninth Grade Campus. No school is scheduled: "there is no determination being made about the timing or location of the next AISD campus," the story says. Superintendent Dr. Susan Bohn: "We have made land acquisition a priority because of our continued growth and the rising prices of land."

Willow Park voters decide whether the city can issue up to $10.1 million in certificates of obligation for road and infrastructure work, most notably around Squaw Creek Road, after a petition drive forced the question to the ballot, The Community News reported Oct. 15
The story says the Squaw Creek Road area "has been plagued with deteriorating road conditions, bad drainage, and leaking water mains." City Manager Toni Fisher noted that if the measure fails, the city cannot issue certificates of obligation for that work, or even ask voters for them, for three more years under state law. On the county's sample ballot this is Proposition B, $10,110,000. Proposition A is the proposed Home Rule Charter. Early voting begins Monday.

Annetta posted the approved minutes of its Sept. 17 council meeting; they record unanimous votes adopting the FY 2026-27 budget, amending the FY 2025-26 budget, joining the proposed Parker County Public Utility Agency, and creating the Capital Improvement Advisory Committee
Per the minutes: Council Member Kent Stasey "noted that the Town has not increased its water rates since 2014 and does not impose a property tax." The budget amendment largely reflects money fiber companies paid for damage to town streets during fiber installation, and the minutes say work by one company "was stopped until the Town was fully reimbursed." Freese and Nichols told the council the utility agency would have 14 participating entities, each appointing one board member, with votes weighted by entity size. The town's annual audit begins Oct. 26, and Mayor Sandy Roberts asked customers to cut back on outdoor watering, especially on weekends. No residents spoke at public comment. The minutes say they were approved Oct. 15.
