The Aledo TIRZ
ExplainerHow a Chapter 311 tax increment reinvestment zone works, what the record shows about Aledo's, and the incremental value on the 2026 tax roll.
What is a TIRZ?
A tax increment reinvestment zone under Chapter 311 of the Tax Code. The city freezes the zone's taxable value in a base year; the taxes on growth above that base, the increment, go to a fund for public improvements in the zone rather than to the general fund.
How much value is in Aledo's zone?
On the 2026 certified roll the council adopted Aug. 6, 2026, the city's Tax Increment Financing zone carried an incremental value of $69,846,799 within the city's $1,057,685,374 total taxable value.
Where is the money spent?
On projects the zone's plan allows. The council's budget work session on May 28, 2026, covered the TIRZ fund alongside the general fund; the zone's project plan and board are on the city's site.
In the record
The zone appears when the council adopts the tax roll each August and builds the budget each spring. The Ledger's thread collects each mention.
