Heat Advisory until 8 p.m. today: heat index values up to 106. Today: a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4pm, sunny, high near 99, heat index values as high as 104, chance of precipitation 20%. Tonight: a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10pm, mostly clear, low around 75. Thursday: a chance of rain showers between 1pm and 4pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms, high near 98, chance of precipitation 40%.

The advisory, issued at 11:31 p.m. Tuesday by NWS Fort Worth, covers Bosque, Fannin, Hood, Jack, Palo Pinto, Parker, Somervell, Stephens, Young and Lamar counties and says hot temperatures and high humidity will increase the risk for heat-related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.

Heat advisories are issued by the NWS Fort Worth office when heat index values are expected to reach dangerous levels; check on neighbors without air conditioning.

Parker County is updating its Thoroughfare Plan and will hold three transportation town halls; Aledo's is Sept. 29 at the Don R. Daniel 9th Grade Campus

The county's newsflash, posted Sept. 8, lists Town Hall #1 Monday, Sept. 21, 6 to 8 p.m., at the Peaster Intermediate School Cafeteria, 3401 Harwell Lake Rd, Weatherford 76088; Town Hall #2 Tuesday, Sept. 22, 6 to 8 p.m., at the Weatherford High School Cafeteria, 2121 Bethel Rd, Weatherford 76087; and Town Hall #3 Tuesday, Sept. 29, 6 to 8 p.m., at the Don R. Daniel 9th Grade Campus Cafeteria, 990 Bailey Ranch Rd, Aledo 76008. The flyer linked from the post says the county is updating its Thoroughfare Plan and wants input on transportation issues and needs in your community and throughout the county, from anyone who lives, works, attends school, owns a business or travels through the county. Sept. 22 is also the morning the Commissioners Court votes on the 2026 tax rate, at 9 a.m. The three dates are on the Ledger's calendar.

Willow Park's Sept. 8 packet sets applications for its Comprehensive Planning Advisory Committee for Sept. 9 through Sept. 18, once the council approves creating it; the city had not posted a record of Tuesday's vote as of this morning

The staff briefing sheet for item 15 says the agenda action requested is for City Council to approve the creation of the Comprehensive Planning Advisory Committee, after which time the City Secretary and staff will accept applications, contact existing applicants on file and existing board and commission members who are not already serving on two boards, and residents, businesses and community partners. The sheet's schedule: application process Wednesday, September 9 through Friday, September 18; City Council committee appointments Tuesday, September 22; first committee meeting Thursday, September 24 at 6:30 p.m., a mandatory virtual meeting; Public Workshop #1 Saturday, October 3, 12 to 3 p.m. at City Hall, a public come-and-go event; a second committee meeting Oct. 29 and a second public workshop Nov. 21, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at City Hall; the third and fourth committee meetings and the third workshop are listed as TBD, March through May; the sheet ties the third meeting and the third workshop to completion of the final draft of the plan. The sheet says the committee focuses only on the Comprehensive Plan update, reviewing land use visions, goals, policies and community feedback, and is not required but recommended as a way to achieve greater community involvement. The application form in the packet says to return it to the City Secretary's Office, 120 El Chico Trl., Ste A, Willow Park 76087, that a member cannot serve on more than two boards at once, and that questions go to (817) 441-7108 ext. 108. Whether the council voted Tuesday to create the committee is to be confirmed: the city's meetings hub had no minutes or video posted for the Sept. 8 meeting as of this morning, and the Ledger reports votes from the record.

Ross Fire: InciWeb's Sept. 8 update holds at 90,400 acres and 57% containment and reports 167 structures destroyed, 95 damaged and 453 saved; Parker County stays under a burn ban, one of 208 counties

The update, posted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, lists the fire's size as an estimated 90,400 acres, containment at 57%, a start date of Aug. 24 and the cause as Equipment Use, Under Investigation. It says the structure assessment team has completed its initial assessment: the wildfire has destroyed 167 structures, including 18 occupied residences, and damaged 95 structures, and 453 structures were saved. There are no road closures or evacuations at this time, per the update. On the weather, it says temperatures will remain in the 100s with relative humidity near 30% each afternoon, winds from the south and southeast with gusts up to 20 mph, and some hint of a change around mid to late week for a return to at least isolated thunderstorms; the reburn potential from scorched timber and strong southeasterly winds remain a concern. The Texas A&M Forest Service's county list, stamped "9/8/2026 2:20:55 PM", carries 208 counties under a burn ban, Parker among them.
