Council raises water and wastewater impact fees on new connections
The Feb. 19 ordinance shifts more of the cost of growth onto new development.
The Aledo City Council adopted an ordinance on Feb. 19 increasing the impact fees charged to developers for new water and wastewater connections. Impact fees are one-time charges meant to recover the cost of the system capacity that new construction consumes, and Texas law requires cities to update the underlying studies periodically.
For a town adding rooftops as fast as Aledo, the fee schedule is one of the few levers that decides whether growth pays for itself. The city's fee schedule is posted on its finance pages; the Ledger will add the new water and wastewater figures to the Growth Ledger's reference table.
