Downtown Aledo gets a plan of its own, with state help

Downtown Aledo business and nonprofit leaders met over breakfast at City Hall on May 12 for the first working session of a downtown-specific planning effort, part of the city's broader comprehensive plan.
The effort builds on the Texas Historical Commission's decision in January to welcome Aledo into its First Street initiative, a downtown revitalization program, as one of two dozen Texas communities in the cohort. The historic Front Street district downtown is the focus.
The council heard pitches in November from three firms to manage the comprehensive plan, a steering committee now meets between council meetings, and the city has held the first of several planned open houses where residents can share what they want the city to become.
