Who polices Aledo?

Two agencies, on the record. The City of Aledo has its own police department with a chief, listed in the Ledger's directory, and the city also contracts with the Parker County Sheriff's Office: the Commissioners Court amended the city's patrol contract with the sheriff on Jan. 12, 2026, and the Sept. 3, 2026 council agenda carried the renewal of the overnight sheriff's contract, which the Sunday review recorded at $18,030.50 a month with 24-hour city coverage expected in January 2027 per the staff memo. The Aledo ISD police department, with its own chief, covers the schools.

When will the 2027 tax rates be set?

By the pattern in the record, late summer. The city adopted its FY2027 rate on Aug. 20, 2026, after adopting the certified roll Aug. 6; the school board has adopted its budget and rate in late August each year the Ledger has on record; the county set its Sept. 22 vote for the 2026 rate. The appraisal district certifies values around July 25, which starts the clock. Subscribe on the tax calculator page to be told when the 2027 rates are adopted.

Why does the school board vote every year to buy attendance credits?

Because Aledo ISD is subject to recapture under Chapter 49 of the Education Code: its local tax collections exceed the state's formula entitlement, and buying attendance credits from the state is the mechanism for sending the excess. The vote appears on the consent agenda every summer in the record, with the signing delegated to the superintendent under Education Code Section 11.1511(c)(4).
