Named Region 11 Board of the Year, the board holds its ESSER III hearing, orders seven buses with 2019 bond funds and extends its custodial and grounds contracts
MAP Growth, a beverage supplier extension, White Horse Painting for the field house and stadium fencing, and bathroom partitions passed 6-0. All students became eligible for free meals under a federal waiver.
The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met July 19, 2021, with President Hoyt Harris and Trustees Julie Turner, Jessica Brown, Jennifer Loftin, Jennifer Taylor and David Lear present. Harris presented the board's subcommittee assignments and the 2021-2022 meeting calendar. Superintendent Susan Bohn said the board had been named Region 11 Board of the Year, that the district would follow TEA's COVID-19 guidelines, and that all students would be eligible for free breakfast and lunch under a new federal waiver. The board commended three TASCO all-star soccer players and nine new leadership team members, including new principals at Coder and Walsh elementaries.
At 6:40 p.m. Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld and Assistant Superintendent Amber Crissey reviewed the district's plans for ESSER III federal funds at a public hearing that drew no comments. The consent agenda, approved 6-0, included a resolution on ESSER III and policy CB(Local) and Policy Update 117's changes to purchasing, facilities and construction, and leaves and absences.
After a recess from 8:23 to 8:30 p.m., the board approved, each 6-0: the purchase of NWEA's MAP Growth; an extension of the exclusive license and supplier agreement with The American Bottling Company; an order of seven school buses with 2019 bond funds; White Horse Painting for the high school field house and Bearcat Stadium fencing projects; bathroom partitions for multiple facilities; and extensions of the custodial contract with PBS of Texas, LLC, and the grounds contract with Ronnie Walters Lawn Care. It nominated Corinne French for the Region 11 seat on TASB's board, 4-0, with Loftin and Turner abstaining.
Crissey and early literacy specialists presented the plan for pandemic learning loss and previewed Lexia Core5 and IXL Learning; Director of Construction and Facilities Tyler Boswell updated the 2019 bond with progress photos; Bohn and Harris discussed community accountability measures; Deputy Superintendent Lynn McKinney reviewed the 2020-2021 improvement plan results; and Husfeld outlined the bank depository process. Executive session items included the superintendent's performance update and an economic development project at the location listed as I-20 South and Aledo Iona Road North.
