Aledo ISD

Aledo ISD adopts a $138.5 million deficit budget and lowers its tax rate for the eighth straight year

Trustees set the 2026-27 rate at $1.1775 per $100 of taxable value, down 1.67 cents, and approved a one-time $1,200 payment for full-time staff.

The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees adopted a 2026-27 budget of $138,549,072 at a special meeting in late August and set the district's total tax rate at $1.1775 per $100 of taxable value, a decrease of $0.0167 from the 2025-26 rate of $1.1942. It is the eighth consecutive year the rate has fallen; the eight-year reduction is now nearly 42 cents, most of it from state compression of the maintenance-and-operations rate.

The budget is a deficit budget. Superintendent Susan Bohn and Board President Forrest Collins both pointed to inflation and a projected decrease in the state's share of funding this year, after a 2025 state funding increase paid for large raises last year. The district said it will keep pressing state lawmakers for more.

With the budget, trustees approved a one-time $1,200 payment for full-time employees ($600 for part-time) to be paid in October, a salary step increase of at least $300 for returning teachers, and a $30-a-month increase in the district's TRS health-care contribution, to $3,960 a year per participating employee. The teaching-experience stipends introduced last year ($525 to $4,000) continue. In June, the board had already added 14 staff positions for the new year.

Aledo ISD has earned the state's Superior rating under the Schools FIRST financial accountability system for 22 straight years and Comptroller Transparency Stars every year since 2019. The full budget is on the district's budget page.
