Aledo ISD board, Sept. 22: three 77-passenger buses for $486,539 from 2023 bond funds, class-size waivers at seven elementary campuses, and $197,333.39 in cell antennas for two campuses
The agenda for Tuesday's 6 p.m. regular meeting, posted to BoardBook Sept. 18, asks the trustees to approve a $486,539.00 order for three school buses from Longhorn Bus Sales, class-size waivers for kindergarten through fifth grade classes above 22 students at seven campuses, and a $22,952.73 share of the county's dispatch console for 2026-2027, and lists a superintendent contract discussion in executive session.

School buses. The administration's memo says the 2023 Bond Program included $4,500,000.00 for school buses, that the district has bought thirty (30) buses in June 2023, May 2024 and October 2025 at a cost of $4,288,303.75, and that it proposes three (3) regular 77-passenger buses because several routes are operating at or near capacity. The Longhorn Bus Sales proposal dated 9/10/2026, obtained through the TASB BuyBoard cooperative, prices three IC Corp C3411 CE buses on a 2027 PB110 chassis at $161,913.00 each, $485,739.00 in total, with an $800.00 BuyBoard fee; the memo puts the purchase at $486,539.00, paid from the remaining 2023 bond funds allocated for buses with the balance from 2023 bond interest income. The memo gives a projected delivery of 30-60 days after the order for stock buses; the proposal itself says 2-7 months from receipt of the purchase order and that the price is good for 30 days.
Class-size waivers. State law sets a 22:1 student-teacher ratio in kindergarten through fourth grade, and the memo says several elementary classrooms are above it because of enrollment growth, staffing allocations and the timing of registration. The waiver request lists, as the memo gives them: Annetta, fifth grade, 4 classes at 23 and 2 at 24; Coder, first grade 2 classes at 23, second grade 1 class at 23, fourth grade 2 classes at 23; McCall, second grade 2 classes at 23; Lynn McKinney, fifth grade 3 classes at 26 and 1 at 27; Stuard, third grade 1 class at 23; Vanda, as the memo names it, fourth grade 1 class at 23, 3 at 24 and 1 at 25; Walsh, kindergarten 2 classes at 23 and fourth grade 4 classes at 24.
Cellular antennas, communication only. The police chief's memo says two campuses have been identified as priority locations for improved cellular coverage for safety purposes, at $83,599.71 and $113,733.68, a total of $197,333.39, and that the district has applied to the 2026 COPS School Violence Prevention Program grant to cover the cost; the memo lists no recommendation and no vote.
Dispatch. An addendum to the interlocal agreement with Parker County has the district pay for the equivalent of three tenths (0.3) of one dispatcher on the shared console in the Sheriff's Office Communications Center; the district's share for 2026-2027 is $22,952.73, payable quarterly at $5,738.18, with the full cost increase phased in over three years, per the memo.
Federal grants. A public notice of 2026-2027 federal grant applications lists Title I-A at $172,674, Title II-A at $126,120, Title III-A at $23,932 and Title IV-A at $12,443, and says the district's improvement committee voted to transfer 100% of the Title IV-A funds to Title I-A.
Also on the agenda: the August 2026 monthly financial reports, which list grand total cash balances of $8,409,451.17; minutes of the Aug. 10, Aug. 17 and Aug. 24 meetings; 2026-2027 School Health Advisory Council appointees; a memorandum of understanding with the Aledo Education Foundation; a resolution reviewing the investment program; an Oklahoma Baptist University affiliation agreement; the 2026-2027 campus and district improvement plans; a career and technical education update; commendations for the Algebra I collaborative team at Aledo High School and the Daniel Ninth Grade Campus, Ashley Brown, Jill Edgington, Katherine Dinges and Victor Blanton, and student commendations in four categories, Bearcats of Character, National Math Star, State Agriscience Fair Contestant Qualifier and a Top 4 National Finalist for Forest Management and Products Proficiency; and a Coder Elementary campus presentation. Executive session lists a superintendent contract discussion under Section 551.074, consultation with the attorney, real property and a student matter.
