School board adopts its priorities for the 89th Legislature and celebrates a Superior financial rating and a state marching band finish

Coder Elementary presented, and the board commended the district's Superior rating in the School FIRST financial integrity system for 2023-2024, the month's Bearcats of Character, the McAnally and Aledo Middle School bands as national winners and Citation of Excellence recipients through the Foundation for Music Education, with McAnally also TMEA State 2C Honor Band runner-up, the Aledo High School band's fifth-place finish at the UIL state marching contest, the percussion ensemble's international competition win, the choir's national award, ag advocacy state qualifiers, the Ladycat volleyball team as state bronze medalists, academic all-state honorees, and Stuard Elementary's kindergarten team.

School board approves Coder Elementary kitchen replacements, the 2024-2025 improvement plans and a technology equipment policy

Stuard Elementary and the Aledo Learning Center presented, the learning center reporting growth in graduation numbers and credits earned. The board commended the month's Bearcats of Character, three AP Capstone diploma recipients, five National Merit commended scholars, a National Merit semifinalist and Coder Elementary's fourth-grade team. No one spoke during public comment. Lear left the meeting at 7:01 p.m. and rejoined at 7:04 p.m.; the consent agenda, including a resolution to join the Houston-Galveston Area Council cooperative purchasing program, passed 5-0 in his absence.

School board buys Chromebooks with emergency connectivity funds, security video servers, McKinney Elementary materials and an ag program vehicle

Coder Elementary presented its Bearcat Friends program. The board commended powerlifting state qualifiers, UIL Class 5A FTC robotics state qualifiers, Walsh Elementary's third-grade team and the new principal of Walsh Elementary. The consent agenda passed 7-0 and included a contract extension for career and technical education vendors and memoranda of understanding with law enforcement agencies.

The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Oct. 15, 2018, with all seven trustees present. Coder Elementary presented. The board commended the middle school bands and high school wind ensemble for Mark of Excellence honors and its National Merit students, and Assistant Superintendent Amber Crissey introduced a new instructional technology specialist. President Hoyt Harris urged attendance at the Oct. 24 Make Education a Priority event. Julie Turner reported the education foundation had awarded $12,000 in fast cash grants. A resident spoke about the District of Innovation from his perspective.

School board appoints Jenny Preston's firm to run the superintendent search, adopts a Culture of Voting resolution, and receives $155,512 from the education foundation

The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Dec. 18, 2017, with all seven trustees present once Vice President Hoyt Harris arrived at 6 p.m. In a work session, Executive Director of Professional Development and Accountability Denise Dugger presented the Texas Academic Performance Report. Coder Elementary students demonstrated Google Classroom. Superintendent Derek Citty said he was attending Dallas County Schools dissolution meetings every other week and hoped to propose bringing the transportation department into the district, and that Places 1, 2 and 3 were up for election with the notice posted Dec. 15. The board recognized the district's Jack Harvey Award nominee and honored Ken Stringer for 45 years with the district police department.

The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met May 15, 2017, with all seven trustees present once Hoyt Harris arrived. The board approved the May 6 election results, declaring Julie Turner elected to Place 6 and Harris to Place 7, 6-0, and both were sworn in. In a work session, staff previewed TEA's redesigned student report, the operating procedures manual, an attendance-zone policy, parking lot lights at the ninth grade campus with 2008 bond funds, easements next to Coder Elementary and Vernon Road funding. The Daniel Ninth Grade campus presented its STEAM carnival and hydroponics, and the board commended state academic, VASE, robotics, FFA, soccer and track honorees.

Director of Student Services and Safety Scott Kessel presented the Cultural Inclusiveness Plan; a motion by Rigues to approve it died for lack of a second, and no direction was given when Citty asked for one. The board approved, each 7-0: the IMA and TEKS certifications; the 2017 Bond Steering Committee; conveyance of easements adjacent to Coder Elementary; a budget amendment for the district's $50,850 share of a 50-50 split with Parker County of additional work on Vernon Road; and nominations of two Community News journalists and a Weatherford Democrat journalist to the TASB Media Honor Roll. After an executive session on the Elementary No. 6 location, it approved two curriculum specialists and renewal contracts, 7-0, and adjourned at 11:10 p.m.

School board approves 2017-2018 staffing projections and Policy Update 107, sends robotics out of state, and hires Sheri Coll as Walsh Elementary's first principal

The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met March 20, 2017, with trustees arriving through the first hour; the minutes' heading misdates the meeting as February. In a work session, Superintendent Derek Citty asked for direction on work sessions and special meetings, reviewed his 2017 goals with trustees requesting quarterly progress reports, and previewed a robotics trip. Coder Elementary's Tech Ninjas presented. Citty reported on the Fast Growth Coalition legislative conference, and the board recognized state swimmers and the state horse judging team. Bobby J. Rigues reported about 100 education bills in the session, highlighting SB 13, HB 150, SB 3, HB 21 and HB 22. There were no public comments.

School board approves the final design of Elementary No. 5 as the CFO reports the 2016 refunding saved more than $12 million

The consent agenda passed 6-0. Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld and a TASB representative presented the pay systems review; Husfeld reported three commendations from the Texas Department of Agriculture's child nutrition audit; Superintendent Derek Citty and Director of Student Services and Safety Scott Kessel outlined the School Health Advisory Council's cultural inclusiveness process; Husfeld projected a general operating fund balance of $13,042,879 at Aug. 31, 2016, 31.65% of annual expenditures, and reported that the Series 2016 refunding bonds sold April 7 to refund the Series 2008 bonds at a lower rate saved the district more than twelve million dollars, with twenty-four million saved since 2012; and Ross Rivers of VLK Architects updated the Coder renovation, controlled entries and technology packages.

Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld presented the 2016-2017 budget calendar, reviewed facility rental policy GKA, said the Dallas County Schools transportation and technology contracts were up for review with a recommendation due in February, and with Ross Rivers of VLK Architects updated the controlled entries, Coder renovation, Elementary No. 5, technology and playground projects.
