School board accepts the 2014-2015 audit and the superintendent's goals, then sits in closed session past midnight
The education foundation awarded almost $160,000 in teacher grants, the middle school STEM team won the Bell Helicopter challenge, and the Dallas County Schools contracts came up for review.
The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Jan. 11, 2016, with all seven trustees present. Aledo Middle School's STEM Challenge Team reported first place in the Bell Helicopter STEM Challenge in its second year. Superintendent Derek Citty announced a Jan. 19 bond committee meeting, a Feb. 10 Make Education a Priority event and a meeting with new Education Commissioner Mike Morath, and drew ten teachers for $250 attendance awards. The board recognized cross country academic all-state students and marked School Board Appreciation Month. President Jay Stringer reported full trustee participation in a February Superintendent Academy in Beaumont. Hoyt Harris reported the education foundation awarded almost $160,000 in teacher grants. There were no public comments.
The consent agenda, approved 7-0, included corrected December minutes. Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld presented the 2016-2017 budget calendar, reviewed facility rental policy GKA, said the Dallas County Schools transportation and technology contracts were up for review with a recommendation due in February, and with Ross Rivers of VLK Architects updated the controlled entries, Coder renovation, Elementary No. 5, technology and playground projects.
The board approved the 2014-2015 audit report and the 2015-2016 superintendent goals, each 7-0. It met in executive session on real property, personnel and safety and security from 8:36 p.m. until 12:05 a.m. on Jan. 12, took no action, and adjourned at 12:07 a.m.
