School board approves the final design of Elementary No. 5 as the CFO reports the 2016 refunding saved more than $12 million

The projected fund balance was $13,042,879, 31.65% of expenditures. The education foundation's gala raised more than $248,000 plus $20,000 for Calm Cats rooms. Every vote was 5-0 after one trustee left.

The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met April 18, 2016, with six trustees present. The Daniel Ninth Grade campus presented its STEAM studio and fabrication lab. The board recognized HOSA state competitors and a state powerlifting champion. Education foundation executive director Shawn Callaway reported the Bearcats and Boots gala raised more than $248,000 and $20,000 for Calm Cats rooms at four elementary campuses, a new foundation president, and the golf tournament renamed the Don Daniel Golf Classic for June 10. Dr. David Tillman reported the Community Partners would donate $1,000 to the AdvoCats. Bobby J. Rigues reported on House Bill 2804's new accountability system, Commissioner Mike Morath's meeting with TASB's board and TEA's reorganization. A resident spoke on the salary study.

The consent agenda passed 6-0. Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld and a TASB representative presented the pay systems review; Husfeld reported three commendations from the Texas Department of Agriculture's child nutrition audit; Superintendent Derek Citty and Director of Student Services and Safety Scott Kessel outlined the School Health Advisory Council's cultural inclusiveness process; Husfeld projected a general operating fund balance of $13,042,879 at Aug. 31, 2016, 31.65% of annual expenditures, and reported that the Series 2016 refunding bonds sold April 7 to refund the Series 2008 bonds at a lower rate saved the district more than twelve million dollars, with twenty-four million saved since 2012; and Ross Rivers of VLK Architects updated the Coder renovation, controlled entries and technology packages.

The board approved, each 5-0 after David Davis left at 9:02 p.m.: the final design and exterior elevation for Elementary No. 5; a resolution on hours for grandparent care; policies FD(Local) on admissions and FM(Local) on student activities; and, after an executive session from 10:29 to 10:59 p.m., teacher contracts. The meeting adjourned at 11:01 p.m.
