School board approves 23 class size waivers over one dissent, adopts Policy Update 106, and hears the Coder project is 99% complete
Two National Merit semifinalists and a national band honor were recognized. The education foundation's grant applications went online.
The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Sept. 19, 2016, with six trustees present. Stuard Elementary presented. Superintendent Derek Citty gave an enrollment update and discussed functional capacity at campuses. The board recognized two National Merit semifinalists, the transportation director's certification as a pupil transportation master official, and two middle school band teachers as national winners in the Mark of Excellence program. Education foundation executive director Shawn Callaway reported 11 new directors and online grant applications. Bobby J. Rigues reported on Senate Education Committee testimony on vouchers and on TEA's Lone Star Governance training, and Forrest Collins on educating the public about a voucher system. There were no public comments.
The consent agenda, approved 6-0, included the education foundation memorandum of understanding, the School Health Advisory Committee members and a 2016-2017 budget amendment. Executive Director Denise Dugger gave the summer school and ESL reports; Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld, Ross Rivers of VLK Architects and Mike Trammell of Buford Thompson reported the Coder project 99% complete and the technology upgrade 95% complete, and updated Elementary No. 5.
The board approved twenty-three class size waivers for the year, 5-1, with Rigues against; Policy Update 106, 6-0; and policy FNF(Local), 6-0. After an executive session from 8:45 to 9:07 p.m. on real property with no action, the meeting adjourned at 9:09 p.m.
