School board appoints Jenny Preston's firm to run the superintendent search, adopts a Culture of Voting resolution, and receives $155,512 from the education foundation
Every vote was 7-0. The 2016-17 TAPR was presented in a work session, the district's transportation department was expected to come in-house from Dallas County Schools, and the president reported legal guidance on posting executive-session items.
The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Dec. 18, 2017, with all seven trustees present once Vice President Hoyt Harris arrived at 6 p.m. In a work session, Executive Director of Professional Development and Accountability Denise Dugger presented the Texas Academic Performance Report. Coder Elementary students demonstrated Google Classroom. Superintendent Derek Citty said he was attending Dallas County Schools dissolution meetings every other week and hoped to propose bringing the transportation department into the district, and that Places 1, 2 and 3 were up for election with the notice posted Dec. 15. The board recognized the district's Jack Harvey Award nominee and honored Ken Stringer for 45 years with the district police department.
President Jay Stringer reported that all trustees had exceeded their training hours, distributed superintendent evaluation packets due Jan. 9 ahead of a Jan. 16 special meeting, raised video recording of meetings if a meeting is relocated, and said he had met with the district attorney about posting executive-session items: placeholders may be listed going in, and actions must be listed coming out. Education foundation president Justin Griffin presented a check for $155,512.00 plus $11,000 for fast cash grants. Bobby J. Rigues reported the new every-two-years trustee training requirement. There were no public comments. The consent agenda, approved 7-0, included a Winterguard trip to Dayton, Ohio, and guided reading books.
Communications Director Rick Herrin presented the communication plan implementation, and Deputy Superintendent Lynn McKinney the strategic plan evaluation. The board approved, each 7-0: the Culture of Voting resolution presented by Citty and Rigues; a class size waiver at Walsh Elementary; and the appointment of Jenny Preston of Preston Education Consulting as the superintendent search firm. After an executive session from 9:12 to 11:16 p.m. on the locations of Elementary No. 6 and Middle School No. 2 with no action, the board thanked a departing board secretary, Rigues asked that the diversity plan be added to the January agenda, and the meeting adjourned at 11:24 p.m.
