After an executive session that included a student matter, the board voted 7-0 at 11:38 p.m. to propose the nonrenewal of a classroom teacher's term contract on the superintendent's recommendation.

School board changes campus mask protocols from required to strongly recommended, 6-1

On a motion by Jennifer Loftin seconded by President Hoyt Harris, the board voted 6-1 to amend campus COVID-19 mask protocols from required to strongly recommended but not required. The minutes do not record the dissenting vote. The board then approved the purchase of technology equipment for a storage area network and an amended technology purchase for Annetta Elementary, each 7-0, presented by Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld and Director of Technology Brooks Moore.

School board honors the 2020 state champion football team, drops a proposed Latin reduction in force, buys Annetta Elementary furniture and playground, and nominates the superintendent for a state award

The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met March 22, 2021, with Jennifer Loftin presiding in President Hoyt Harris's absence and Trustees David Lear, Jennifer Taylor, Jessica Brown, Julie Turner and Forrest Collins present. Collins reported on bills filed in the 87th Legislative Session, and Brown on the coming McAnally Middle School groundbreaking and the visible progress at Annetta Elementary.

The consent agenda, approved 6-0, included the 2021-2022 instructional calendar, a missed school days waiver, a pre-kindergarten curriculum adoption, 2021-2022 administrative contracts and the district's literacy, mathematics and college, career and military readiness goals. The board approved, each 6-0: new staffing recommendations for 2021-2022; technology equipment for Annetta Elementary and enrollment growth; furniture, an abatement consultant and contractor for the Aledo Middle School project, and playground equipment for Annetta Elementary; and a resolution nominating Superintendent Susan Bohn for the TASB Superintendent of the Year award. Two posted items on declaring a reduction in force due to a program change ended with no action after Deputy Superintendent Lynn McKinney said the administration would instead propose changing the Latin program, moving the teacher from full time to part time and potentially to a virtual position, given declining enrollment.

Stuard Elementary presented, and the board commended journalism state recognition, Duke TIP honorees and national recognition program scholars. Four residents spoke about the district's COVID-19 protocols, including the mask requirement and its application to children under 10; Executive Director of Student Services Scott Kessel reviewed case trends and said the administration would make changes to safety protocols.

Board reviews the COVID-19 dashboard and the bond timeline: Elementary School No. 6 held to an August 2021 opening, middle school bids due in December and January

The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met in special session Sept. 14, 2020, at 6:05 p.m. with all seven trustees present. Executive Director of Student Services Scott Kessel reviewed the district's COVID-19 dashboard, the management of case information, and rapid testing available from campus nurses and other sites. Jessica Brown said the bond subcommittee would report at every meeting and that the goal for Elementary School No. 6 remained August 2021.

Director of Facilities and Construction Tyler Boswell said a pre-proposal meeting and site visit for Elementary School No. 6 was set for the next day, with the aim of bringing a contractor to the board on Oct. 5, 2020, and starting long-lead items early; Aledo Middle School renovation bids were due Jan. 26, 2021, with construction planned for February 2021; and Middle School No. 2 bids were due in December 2020 with construction planned for January 2021. Superintendent Susan Bohn described the district's work with the Town of Annetta on review of utility facilities and the public roadway on the Elementary School No. 6 tract, with the town's final review expected that week. The board convened in executive session at 7 p.m., returned at 10:25 p.m. and adjourned.

Meeting remotely, the board approves PBK's schematic design for Elementary School No. 6

The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met in special session remotely via Webex on March 30, 2020, at 6 p.m. with all seven trustees present. Director of Construction and Facilities Tyler Boswell said PBK had met with staff, students and the community to shape the design, and that the schematic design phase accounts for 15% of PBK's work for the district. Lee Osborne and Sean Pantin of PBK presented the design, and Mike Trammel of Buford Thompson Construction reported on very preliminary budget matters. On Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld's recommendation, the board approved the schematic design for new Elementary School No. 6, 7-0, on a motion by Secretary Forrest Collins seconded by David Lear. Cabinet members updated the board on the COVID-19 building closure, and the meeting adjourned at 7:35 p.m.

Board hires Dr. Susan K. Bohn as superintendent effective June 11, 2018, approves a consulting agreement with Dr. Derek Citty through June 30, and hires a high school assistant principal

The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met in special session April 27, 2018, at 8:33 a.m. with all seven trustees present after Vice President Hoyt Harris arrived at 8:39. After a closed session from 8:34 to 9:40 a.m., the board approved Superintendent Derek Citty's recommendation to hire Billy McLaughlin as assistant principal at Aledo High School, 7-0. Citty said the Elementary School No. 6 site contract needed no action that day and would return on a future agenda, and thanked the Carpenter family for its cooperation with the contract's challenges.

The board approved Deputy Superintendent Lynn McKinney's 2018-2019 staffing projections, 21 new teachers, a special education specialist, a part-time diagnostician, a speech therapist, a part-time special education counselor, a part-time ABA therapist, an assistant principal at Walsh Elementary, three police officers, a district-wide intervention counselor, a facilities and operations position, an attendance clerk, two child nutrition staff and a general maintenance worker, 6-0, and furniture for the Aledo Learning Center expansion, 6-0. After an executive session from 9:18 to 10:44 p.m. that included the Elementary School No. 6 site contract, the meeting adjourned at 10:50 p.m.

School board calls a $72,950,000 bond election for Nov. 7, 2017, in two propositions, after defeating a $1 million cut and moving turf money to contingency

The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Aug. 21, 2017, with all seven trustees present once Vice President Hoyt Harris arrived at 6:08 p.m. The board opened with an executive session from 6:07 to 7:08 p.m. on the locations of Middle School No. 2 and Elementary No. 6, with no action. Superintendent Derek Citty reported on convocation, Executive Director Denise Dugger previewed the accountability ratings released Aug. 15, and the board welcomed three new specialists and recognized a middle school science teacher as a state finalist for the Presidential Award. Education foundation executive director Shawn Callaway said the foundation gave $265,000 to the district in the past year with a goal of $289,000 for the next. Eight residents spoke, on the budget, the M&O tax rate, the bond proposition language, the superintendent's contract, the bond and test scores, property taxes and options for the growing student population.

The board approved, each 7-0: the IMA and TEKS certifications; the 2017 Bond Steering Committee; conveyance of easements adjacent to Coder Elementary; a budget amendment for the district's $50,850 share of a 50-50 split with Parker County of additional work on Vernon Road; and nominations of two Community News journalists and a Weatherford Democrat journalist to the TASB Media Honor Roll. After an executive session on the Elementary No. 6 location, it approved two curriculum specialists and renewal contracts, 7-0, and adjourned at 11:10 p.m.

The board approved, each 7-0: the Bearcat Stadium scoreboard purchase; the 2017 superintendent goals; furniture, fixtures and equipment for Walsh Elementary; Technology Package 3 for student and faculty devices; and authority for the superintendent to negotiate and execute the district's electricity contract. After an executive session from 9:31 to 11:03 p.m. on the Elementary No. 6 location, it approved 2017-2018 professional contracts, 6-0, Davis having left at 10:30 p.m., and adjourned at 11:06 p.m.

After 22 residents speak, the board postpones the elementary attendance zones on a 5-2 vote when a motion for Plan 10 finds no second

The board approved a change order for Elementary No. 5, 7-0. A motion by David Davis to approve Elementary Attendance Zone Plan 10 received no second and no vote. On a motion by Jennifer Loftin seconded by Stringer, the board voted 5-2 to postpone Plan 10 and keep working on the boundaries, with Forrest Collins and Hoyt Harris against. After an executive session from 10:10 to 10:17 p.m. on the Elementary No. 6 location, Citty asked trustees to find common ground and decide, and the meeting adjourned at 10:19 p.m.

Trustees weigh what they heard at two town halls on attendance zones, order stage-two buses, and split 5-1 on a high school boiler from 2008 bond funds

The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Nov. 14, 2016, with six trustees present, opening with an executive session from 6:16 to 6:59 p.m. on the Elementary No. 6 location. Vandagriff Elementary's student council presented. Superintendent Derek Citty clarified that the demographers had drawn the proposed boundaries from administration's parameters, that the board had not yet worked the plans, and that a Dec. 5 workshop would precede a Dec. 15 decision. The board recognized First Financial Bank's Employers for Education Excellence award.

At the second town hall on elementary attendance zones, 25 speakers raise moves, commutes, volunteers, special needs and grandfathering

The minutes record 25 numbered concerns. Recurring themes: children who would leave Vandagriff, Coder and Stuard for the new school and the friendships and adjustment involved; Coder's loss of parent volunteers and questions about socioeconomic balance; commute times, bus rides, railroad tracks and two major arteries on the way to the new school in the north; requests to let current kindergartners stay, to grandfather students, or to hold the change until Elementary No. 6 opens; a special-needs child's resources and a child's medical needs far from a parent; whether the city's infrastructure planning figured in; whether a hybrid keeping fifth graders at McAnally could work; why the district builds small elementary schools; how many houses are being developed; and one speaker who said the consistent theme that no one wants to move showed the schools were doing a good job. Citty thanked the audience, and trustees asked for patience, said they would give reasons for the decision, and said they were looking at more than numbers. The meeting adjourned at 9:23 p.m.

Among them: a petition to keep Sanctuary Oaks and Bella Vista at Stuard because McCall is three times as far; families a fraction of a mile from Vandagriff who would be reassigned; socioeconomic balance among five schools and Coder's parent volunteers; children who could attend three elementary schools as Elementary No. 6 is built; railroad tracks, highways and commute time; whether boundaries and a sixth school were considered when the bond passed; a bond voter's objection that the school was built in the north rather than where a 2025 committee wanted it, and a question of whether the community can trust the board; requests for open enrollment at the new school, grandfathering and a hybrid model keeping fifth grade at McAnally; a call for a traffic analysis; and one parent who said a school change had been the best thing to happen to his son. Citty asked the audience to send additional feedback to trustees, and the meeting adjourned at 8:59 p.m.
