Speakers asked to keep Sanctuary Oaks and Bella Vista at Stuard, questioned why the new school went north, and proposed a hybrid keeping fifth graders at McAnally. No action was taken.
The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees held a special town hall meeting Nov. 7, 2016, at the Aledo High School auditorium with six trustees present once Dr. David Tillman arrived. Superintendent Derek Citty presented the district's history, projected enrollment and the next bond program, and Rocky Gardiner of Templeton Demographics presented the fall 2016 demographic update with the proposed elementary boundaries.
The minutes record 23 numbered concerns. Among them: a petition to keep Sanctuary Oaks and Bella Vista at Stuard because McCall is three times as far; families a fraction of a mile from Vandagriff who would be reassigned; socioeconomic balance among five schools and Coder's parent volunteers; children who could attend three elementary schools as Elementary No. 6 is built; railroad tracks, highways and commute time; whether boundaries and a sixth school were considered when the bond passed; a bond voter's objection that the school was built in the north rather than where a 2025 committee wanted it, and a question of whether the community can trust the board; requests for open enrollment at the new school, grandfathering and a hybrid model keeping fifth grade at McAnally; a call for a traffic analysis; and one parent who said a school change had been the best thing to happen to his son. Citty asked the audience to send additional feedback to trustees, and the meeting adjourned at 8:59 p.m.
