School board approves synthetic turf for the baseball and softball fields, engages Pattillo, Brown & Hill, and buys Annetta Elementary's curriculum

Nine action items passed 6-0 after an executive session that opened the meeting. The Ladycat softball team's state silver was commended.

The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met June 21, 2021, with all seven trustees present. Superintendent Susan Bohn reported on the summer's search for qualified teachers. Forrest Collins summarized the 87th Legislative Session's education bills, and Jessica Brown updated the 2019 bond construction. The board commended Circle of Greatness honorees, the Ladycat softball team as 2021 Class 5A state silver medalists, robotics team 6566 as a UIL state qualifier and three TASCO all-star soccer players. At 6:44 p.m. President Hoyt Harris took the board into executive session; it reconvened at 8:03 p.m. without Brown.

The consent agenda, approved 6-0, included the district's contracts with the Region 11 Education Service Center. The board then approved, each 6-0: Really Great Reading products; turf conversions and replacements for the Aledo High School and Daniel Ninth Grade fields, presented with Athletic Director Steve Wood; 2020-2021 general fund and debt service fund budget amendments; cafeteria furniture for Aledo High School; the engagement of Pattillo, Brown & Hill LLC for the 2020-2021 audit; math and English language arts and reading curriculum materials for Annetta Elementary; a cost increase for certified material testing by CMJ Engineering on the Annetta Elementary project; an Oncor Electric Delivery Company LLC easement and right of way for the Aledo Middle School project; and 2021-2022 staffing adjustments.

Assistant Superintendent Amber Crissey and instructional specialists presented the components of professional learning communities and end-of-year data with Director of Assessment and Accountability Candace Summerhill; Director of Construction and Facilities Tyler Boswell showed progress photos of the 2019 bond projects; Executive Director of Student Services Scott Kessel gave the School Health Advisory Council's annual report; staff previewed the custodial and grounds contract extensions and Policy Update 117; and Bohn and Deputy Superintendent Lynn McKinney discussed the planned use of ESSER funds and an ESSER III resolution. Executive session items included the superintendent's performance update and an economic development project at the location listed as I-20 South and Aledo Iona Road North.
