The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Nov. 13, 2017, with all seven trustees present once Vice President Hoyt Harris and Dr. David Tillman arrived at 6:04 p.m. In a work session, Director of Student Services and Safety Scott Kessel reviewed the proposed cultural inclusiveness plan and Forrest Collins led a discussion of the district's values. Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld said the bond election canvass results had not arrived because the appraisal office was closed for Veterans Day, and the board decided Superintendent Derek Citty and Husfeld would contact Baselice and Associates about polling the community on next steps for the bond.
Aledo High School presented its 2016-2017 year in review. Citty described three separate and unrelated lockdowns and the district's procedures, with a Parent University on emergency management set for Dec. 11. Deputy Superintendent Lynn McKinney reviewed the 2018-2021 strategic plan timeline. The board commended an essay contest winner, band citation winners and the Bearcat Regiment's eighth place at the UIL state marching contest, and the state cross country champion and a third-place finisher. Jennifer Loftin reported more than $10,000 in fast cash grants, and Bobby J. Rigues reported on the State Board of Education's long-range plan forums. There were no public comments.
The consent agenda, approved 7-0, included opposition to the Lead International Academy charter school and the education foundation memorandum of understanding. Husfeld presented the final dispositions of the 2008 and 2015 bonds. The board postponed the bond canvass, 7-0; approved $170,290.00 in playground equipment for Walsh Elementary, 7-0; postponed the Culture of Voting resolution to Dec. 18, 7-0; and cast the district's 950 votes for Gary Aguillard for the Parker County Appraisal District board, 7-0, with no motion made for the Tarrant Appraisal District.
After an executive session from 9:01 to 10:10 p.m. on the locations of Elementary No. 6 and Middle School No. 2 and the superintendent's contract, with no action, Citty read a letter announcing his retirement effective June 30, 2018. Trustees thanked him, and the meeting adjourned at 10:17 p.m.
