Aledo ISD Administration Board Room, 1008 Bailey Ranch Road

School board hears bond survey results and the demographic report, accepts the audit, approves a fiber project, calls the May election and amends the Elementary School No. 6 site contract

Every vote was 5-0. Jay Stringer announced he would not run again, the PTO gave $12,700 to each elementary campus, and the district reported a Superior financial rating for 2016-17.

The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Jan. 25, 2018, with five trustees present. In a work session, Michael Baselice presented bond election survey results, a demographer presented the demographic report, and Superintendent Derek Citty offered timelines and a bond steering committee for later consideration. McCall Elementary's student council presented. Citty reported that the Aledo A logo is now a trademark the district will enforce, that the district had never observed the federal ruling's 8.5% special education figure, that the deputy superintendent had represented the district before the Aledo City Council in opposition to a beer and wine license for a business across from McAnally Intermediate, and thanked first responders and staff for their handling of the Jan. 22 fires. The board honored the Associated Press 5A football players and trainers, the trustees for School Board Recognition Month, and the PTO for gifts of $12,700 to each elementary campus, $5,000 each to the high school and ninth grade campus and $1,100 to the learning center. President Jay Stringer announced he would not run again.

The consent agenda, approved 5-0, included innovative courses, the 2018-19 calendar, and postponement of the strategic planning process and the District of Innovation committee. Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld reported a Superior School FIRST rating for 2016-17 and the budget calendar; Director of Student Services and Safety Scott Kessel presented the 2017 district drug survey.

The board approved, each 5-0: the annual external audit report; the district fiber project; and the calling of the May 2018 trustee election. After an executive session from 9:03 to 9:51 p.m., it approved the amended contract for the Elementary School Site No. 6, 5-0, and voted 5-0 to enter discussions only regarding Middle School No. 2. The meeting adjourned at 9:57 p.m.
