School board approves 2018-2019 staffing projections, including 21 teachers and three police officers, and hears a proposal for a 37-member bond planning committee

The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met March 19, 2018, with President Jay Stringer and Trustees Bobby J. Rigues, Jennifer Loftin, Forrest Collins and Julie Turner present; Dr. David Tillman arrived at 6:07 p.m. In a work session, Superintendent Derek Citty proposed a long-range bond planning committee of 37 members, two representatives from each campus, two parents from each school, three members of the original 2025 committee, staff representatives from each grade level and 13 community appointees, on a staggered rotation, for a vote in April. McAnally Intermediate's student council presented, the board commended a state swimming medalist and qualifier, and a resident spoke about school safety.
The consent agenda, approved 6-0, included the instructional materials allotment certification, Heinemann purchases and opposition to the Chapel Hill Academy and IDEA Public Schools charter applications. Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld presented the fund balance report and a preliminary budget calendar, and said custodial service proposals under review were expected to raise prices regardless of the vendor selected.
The board approved Deputy Superintendent Lynn McKinney's 2018-2019 staffing projections, 21 new teachers, a special education specialist, a part-time diagnostician, a speech therapist, a part-time special education counselor, a part-time ABA therapist, an assistant principal at Walsh Elementary, three police officers, a district-wide intervention counselor, a facilities and operations position, an attendance clerk, two child nutrition staff and a general maintenance worker, 6-0, and furniture for the Aledo Learning Center expansion, 6-0. After an executive session from 9:18 to 10:44 p.m. that included the Elementary School No. 6 site contract, the meeting adjourned at 10:50 p.m.
