Trustees weigh what they heard at two town halls on attendance zones, order stage-two buses, and split 5-1 on a high school boiler from 2008 bond funds
Three trustees said Sanctuary Oaks and Bella Vista should stay at Stuard. Republic Property Group said Walsh's grand opening would be April 2017.
The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Nov. 14, 2016, with six trustees present, opening with an executive session from 6:16 to 6:59 p.m. on the Elementary No. 6 location. Vandagriff Elementary's student council presented. Superintendent Derek Citty clarified that the demographers had drawn the proposed boundaries from administration's parameters, that the board had not yet worked the plans, and that a Dec. 5 workshop would precede a Dec. 15 decision. The board recognized First Financial Bank's Employers for Education Excellence award.
President Jay Stringer led trustee comments on the two town halls. Forrest Collins, Hoyt Harris and David Davis each said the Sanctuary Oaks and Bella Vista neighborhoods should remain at Stuard; Collins asked that schools be kept at functional capacity and the ten-year plan for more schools be made clear; Harris and Davis said lines could not be set in stone with new developments; Jennifer Loftin said next year would look different whether students moved or not; Bobby J. Rigues said Aledo was one of seventy-five fast-growth districts and transparency and sound reasoning were essential; Stringer asked to minimize moves this year and move more students in two years; and Citty said plugging two communities in means pulling other students out to balance. Loftin reported the Mad for Plaid campaign drew more than 170 guests, and Rigues reported the 85th session's interest in vouchers, finance and governance. A resident spoke about foreign exchange students.
The consent agenda, approved 6-0, included a Bearcat Regiment and choir trip to Branson, Missouri. Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld and Buford-Thompson updated Elementary No. 5, and Bexie Nobles of Republic Property Group presented the Walsh development with a grand opening set for April 2017. The board approved the superintendent evaluation instrument procedure and schedule, policy FFA(Local) and the stage-two bus order under the 2015 bond, each 6-0, and the Aledo High School boiler replacement from remaining 2008 bond funds, 5-1, with Rigues against. The meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
