After 22 residents speak, the board postpones the elementary attendance zones on a 5-2 vote when a motion for Plan 10 finds no second
The education foundation gave $181,000 for teacher grants and the PTO $80,000; the district reported an A-Superior financial rating; and a change order for Elementary No. 5 passed 7-0.
The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Dec. 15, 2016, with all seven trustees present. McCall Elementary presented. Superintendent Derek Citty announced the state football championship game, the trustee election timeline and a meeting with Commissioner Mike Morath. The board recognized cross country state qualifiers and academic all-state athletes, and received checks of $80,000 from the PTO and $181,000 from the Aledo Education Foundation for teacher grants. President Jay Stringer read the annual board training report into the record: no Tier One training required in a non-legislative year, the new trustee's orientation completed, Team of Eight training completed Oct. 4, and every trustee meeting and exceeding the continuing-education hours. Bobby J. Rigues reported the 85th Legislature would open Jan. 10 with school choice and funding as the main topics. Twenty-two residents, counting a couple listed together as two, spoke about the elementary attendance zone boundary, and one about cheerleading.
The consent agenda, approved 7-0, included a charter school consideration, a fire alarm inspection agreement and a McCall student council trip. Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld and Buford-Thompson Construction updated Elementary No. 5, Husfeld reviewed 2008 bond expenditures, and Husfeld reported the district received the highest School FIRST rating, A-Superior, for 2016.
The board approved a change order for Elementary No. 5, 7-0. A motion by David Davis to approve Elementary Attendance Zone Plan 10 received no second and no vote. On a motion by Jennifer Loftin seconded by Stringer, the board voted 5-2 to postpone Plan 10 and keep working on the boundaries, with Forrest Collins and Hoyt Harris against. After an executive session from 10:10 to 10:17 p.m. on the Elementary No. 6 location, Citty asked trustees to find common ground and decide, and the meeting adjourned at 10:19 p.m.
