School board extends random drug testing to grades 7 and 8 extracurriculars, adopts the 2021-2022 code of conduct and community report card, and picks First Financial Bank as depository
Every vote was 7-0. An economic-development item listed the project location as I-20 South and Aledo Iona Road North; the turf contract for the baseball and softball fields grew because of soil problems.
The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Aug. 16, 2021, with all seven trustees present. Superintendent Susan Bohn said the district would monitor COVID-19's effect on operations and adjust through the year. Forrest Collins reported on the special legislative session, and Jessica Brown on the challenges and successes at the Aledo Middle School renovation and the new Annetta Elementary. The board welcomed a fine arts coordinator and a Daniel Ninth Grade assistant principal. Community members spoke on agenda and non-agenda items.
The consent agenda passed 7-0 and included the instructional and athletic supplies vendor list, a Parker County 4-H resolution, the appraiser list and calendar, a residential placement contract and special education service proposals, the agreement to purchase attendance credit under the state's recapture provisions with authority delegated to the superintendent under Texas Education Code Section 11.1511(c)(4), and an interlocal agreement to join the Tarrant County cooperative purchasing program.
After a recess from 7:45 to 8 p.m., the board approved, each 7-0: the 2021-2022 Report Card to the Community, on an adjusted motion by President Hoyt Harris; the 2021-2022 Student Code of Conduct; purchases of Lexia Core5 Reading and IXL Learning math with its diagnostic assessment; the bank depository contract with First Financial Bank; an increase in the synthetic turf contract for the high school baseball and softball fields because of unforeseen soil issues; and a revision of policy FNF(Local) to include random drug testing of students in certain extracurricular activities in grades 7 and 8. Jennifer Taylor was named TASB delegate with Collins as alternate, and Collins was nominated to apply for a TASB stipend to attend the National School Boards Association Advocacy Institute.
Assistant Superintendent Amber Crissey presented the 2021-2022 instructional focus, Bond Progress Committee member Carolyn Rekerdres and Director of Facilities and Construction Tyler Boswell updated the 2019 bond projects, and Deputy Superintendent Lynn McKinney previewed a change to policy DEC(Local). Executive session items included the superintendent's performance update and, under the economic development provisions of the Open Meetings Act, a project at the location listed as I-20 South and Aledo Iona Road North.
