School board adopts the 2022-2023 compensation plan and Health I curriculum, buys Chromebooks, and hears that a citizens committee on growth will form in the fall
The updated demographic report shows the need for additional campuses, the facility planning subcommittee reported. The softball team's state bronze and golf and track state qualifiers were commended.
The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met June 20, 2022, with President Hoyt Harris and Trustees David Lear, Jennifer Loftin, Jessica Brown, Turner and Forrest Collins present. Harris celebrated end-of-year data. Collins reported on the State Board of Education and the Legislature, Brown on the 2019 bond projects, and Lear on the long-range facility planning subcommittee, saying the district's updated demographic report shows the need for additional campuses.
The board commended academic all-state athletes, girls and boys golf state qualifiers, state track and field qualifiers, FFA state qualifiers, the softball team as UIL Class 5A state bronze medalists, and a new transportation director. One community member addressed the board. The consent agenda passed 6-0 and included Region 11 contracts, a foreign exchange student waiver and an Annetta Elementary Ed-Flex Title I schoolwide waiver.
The board approved the 2022-2023 compensation plan, 6-0; Collins left at 8:42 p.m. It then approved, each 5-0, adoption of the Health I curriculum presented by Executive Director of Student Services Scott Kessel, the purchase of student Chromebooks, new staffing recommendations for 2022-2023, and a contingency allowance expenditure authorization for the 2019 bond project at Aledo Middle School.
Superintendent Susan Bohn updated the board on district safety and security; Assistant Superintendent Amber Crissey on the instructional focus; Director of Facilities and Construction Tyler Boswell on the 2019 bond; Kessel gave the School Health Advisory Council's annual report; Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld previewed extensions of the custodial and grounds contracts; and Lear and Bohn discussed the district's fast growth and said a citizens committee would be organized in the fall of 2022 to make recommendations to the board. Executive session items included the superintendent's performance update and security audits.
