School board buys Chromebooks, performing arts equipment and activity buses, and awards the bid to convert Vandagriff Elementary into the Early Childhood Academy

After two weeks of winter weather, the board passed missed-day and remote-homebound waivers and a wage resolution for emergency closings. No one spoke at the 2020-2021 TAPR hearing.

The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Feb. 28, 2022, with President Hoyt Harris and Trustees David Lear, Jennifer Taylor, Jennifer Loftin, Jessica Brown, Turner and Forrest Collins present, as the minutes list them. Harris thanked the community for its understanding during two weeks of inclement weather and celebrated the first-year wrestling program. Superintendent Susan Bohn discussed student wellness and staff recruitment and retention. Collins gave a legislative update, Brown updated the 2019 bond, and Lear introduced the new long-range facility planning subcommittee and its campus tours.

Annetta Elementary and the Aledo Learning Center presented. The board marked School Board Recognition Month and commended the PTO's donation to the district, FFA state qualifiers, a CTENT teacher of the year, academic all-state honorees and an AVCA All-American volleyball player. No public comments were given. The consent agenda passed 7-0 and included class size exception waivers, remote homebound attendance waivers, missed school day waivers and a resolution on wage payments during emergency school closings.

The board approved, each 7-0: the purchase of student Chromebooks; performing arts equipment and furniture for McAnally Middle School and Aledo Middle School; the competitive sealed proposal bid for the 2019 bond project converting Vandagriff Elementary School to the Early Childhood Academy; and the purchase of school activity buses.

Director of Career and Technical Education Mary Smith and CTE students presented the program; instructional specialists shared professional learning community ratings; Director of Assessment and Accountability Candace Summerhill presented middle-of-year screener data and the 2020-2021 Texas Academic Performance Report at a public hearing; Bond Progress Committee member Robert Cox reported; Director of Facilities and Construction Tyler Boswell updated the 2019 bond; Deputy Superintendent Lynn McKinney discussed the draft 2022-2023 calendar; and staff previewed library materials and weight room equipment for the middle schools.
