The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Feb. 19, 2024, with Trustees Forrest Collins, Zachary Tarrant, Jessica Brown, Jennifer Loftin and Jennifer Taylor present. Collins discussed the difficult budget decisions ahead. Superintendent Susan Bohn reiterated the severity of the budget situation following the state's inaction on public school funding and how it would affect student experiences, acknowledged the 2024 Attendance Zone Committee members present, and celebrated Heather Street as the incoming principal of Lynn McKinney Elementary, with Lynn McKinney in attendance as the school's namesake. Brown urged voting in the coming election and updated the bond projects.
The high school and ninth grade campus presented. The board commended the cheer program's National Cheerleaders Association and UIL state spirit competitors, district art show winners, Circle of Greatness recipients and Annetta Elementary's first-grade team, and received Aledo Education Foundation grant donations. The consent agenda passed 5-0 and included class size waivers, a staff development minutes waiver for 2024-2025 and election services agreements with Parker and Tarrant counties.
The board approved, each 5-0, rooftop unit replacements for Aledo High School, presented by Chief Facilities and Construction Officer Chris Campbell; technology for Lynn McKinney Elementary and district student Chromebooks, presented by Executive Director of Technology Brooks Moore; and the revision and renewal of the District of Innovation plan, presented by Assistant Superintendent Ingia Saxton.
Reading language arts staff gave an update and Director of Assessment and Accountability Candace Summerhill presented middle-of-year screener data; Attendance Zone Committee co-chairs Aaron Valencia and Lauren Edwards presented the committee's draft elementary and middle school maps for board and community feedback; Josh Cogburn of Huckabee Architects presented the construction plan for the Aledo High School renovations and additions under the 2023 bond; Saxton previewed library and media center materials for McKinney Elementary; Campbell updated the bond projects; and Bohn and Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld led a 2024-2025 budget discussion. An executive session on the superintendent's performance update was posted.
