School board opens the year with an A rating from the state, new leaders, and a first look at an architect for future high school space

Lear reported on the implications of the 89th Legislative Session for districts and noted a special session under way, and summarized the Aledo Growth Committee's charge for the year, visioning future high school space; applications to serve on the committee were open through Aug. 20, 2025. The board commended the new members of the district's leadership team, including a chief facilities and construction officer, a director of transportation and six assistant principals.

Assistant Superintendent Amber Crissey reviewed the 2025-2026 district instructional focus, and Chief Facilities and Construction Officer Caleb Bell discussed a potential agreement with Huckabee Architects for conceptual design of future additional high school facilities, a communication item that returned for a vote in September. The board approved 5-0 the purchase of technology annual license and warranty renewals, an addendum to the interlocal agreement with the Public Workers' Compensation Program, and authorization for the superintendent to negotiate and execute an electricity contract.

The board also approved, each 7-0: Alpha Testing as materials testing consultant for Lynn McKinney Elementary; Teague Nall and Perkins as civil engineering consultant for the high school and agriculture barn expansion; a fire alarm replacement at McCall Elementary; re-keying of the district's interior and exterior doors; authority for the superintendent to execute a development agreement with FG Aledo; technology license and warranty renewals; district network equipment purchased with 2023 bond funds, presented by Director of Technology Brooks Moore; an extension of the bank depository contract with First Financial Bank; the agreement to purchase attendance credit under the state's recapture provisions, with authority delegated to the superintendent under Texas Education Code Section 11.1511(c)(4); an update to policy CE(Local) on the annual operating budget; and the 2023-2024 regular meeting dates.

Assistant Superintendent Amber Crissey and instructional specialists reviewed professional learning community progress, and Director of Construction and Facilities Tyler Boswell gave a timeline of architect meetings. After an executive session from 8:25 to 9:20 p.m., the meeting adjourned at 9:22 p.m.

Bearcat Growth Committee co-chairs Christi James and Jim Scott and committee members presented their recommendation, and the board approved the committee's recommendation for a 2019 bond program, 7-0. On Superintendent Susan Bohn's and Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld's request, the board then approved an order calling a bond election in the district on Nov. 5, 2019, 7-0. It also approved the 2019-2020 Student Code of Conduct, nominated Collins to the National School Boards Association's Advocacy Institute, and named Collins delegate and Jessica Brown alternate to TASB's 2019 delegate assembly, each 7-0.
