School board approves 2019-2020 staffing, cancels the May 4 election after candidates go unopposed, and hears a debt-capacity analysis as the growth committee tours campuses
Both votes were 7-0. Derek Vierling's 500th win and a state swimming champion were commended, and no one commented at the 2017-2018 TAPR hearing.
The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met March 18, 2019, with President Hoyt Harris, Vice President Jennifer Loftin, Secretary Forrest Collins and Trustees Julie Turner, Jessica Brown and David Lear present, with Bobby J. Rigues making motions later in the meeting as the minutes record. McAnally Intermediate presented. The board commended UIL debate state qualifiers, a Parker County spelling bee champion, a Class 5A state swimming champion and medalists, the Gatorade Texas runner of the year, and boys soccer coach Derek Vierling for state and regional coach of the year honors and his 500th career victory. Harris said trustees and Superintendent Susan Bohn would attend East Parker County Day at the Capitol on March 20, where the district's state champions would be recognized on the House floor; Collins reported on school finance bills in the 86th Legislature.
Assistant Superintendent Amber Crissey presented the 2017-2018 Texas Academic Performance Report at a public hearing. The consent agenda, approved 7-0, included the instructional materials allotment certification, 2019-2020 administrator contracts and a Destination Imagination overnight trip. The board approved new staffing positions for 2019-2020, previously discussed at the Feb. 28 workshop, 7-0, and accepted the certification of unopposed candidates and canceled the May 4, 2019, trustee election, 7-0.
Bohn reported the Bearcat Growth Committee had toured Walsh Elementary and would tour Aledo Middle School and Vandagriff Elementary on March 28; Josh McLaughlin of BOK Financial Securities presented the district's debt position, bond capacity analysis and the conversion of variable rate bonds; Crissey presented the K-8 reading materials the adoption committee recommended; Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld and Director of Facilities and Construction Tyler Boswell updated 2015 bond expenditures; Director of Technology Brooks Moore discussed a firewall upgrade; and Executive Director Scott Kessel outlined the GPA and class rank policy review. After an executive session from 8:45 to 9:35 p.m., the meeting adjourned.
