School board approves Huckabee's schematic designs for Middle School No. 2 and the Aledo Middle School renovation, and hears the district plans to offer families an in-person or virtual choice

The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met June 8, 2020, with all seven trustees present: President Hoyt Harris, Vice President Jennifer Loftin, Secretary Forrest Collins and Trustees Julie Turner, Jessica Brown, Jennifer Taylor and David Lear. Harris explained the board's three subcommittees: operating procedures, legislative and bond construction. Collins said the legislative subcommittee would meet State Representative Phil King about the instructional calendar and remote education. The board recognized three Circle of Greatness honorees and introduced new principals for the Daniel Ninth Grade campus and McAnally Intermediate. The publisher of The Community News spoke during public comment about the paper's partnership with the district over the past 25 years.
Superintendent Susan Bohn reported that the district was planning for the fall and wanted to give parents the choice of in-person or virtual return, that the administration building remained closed, and that athletics and band were practicing under UIL guidelines. The consent agenda, approved 7-0, included Region 11 contracts, missed school day, instructional materials inventory and low attendance day waivers, and a 2019-2020 general fund budget amendment.
After presentations by Shannon Bearden of Huckabee Architects, the board approved the schematic designs for Middle School No. 2 and for Aledo Middle School, each 7-0. It also approved, each 7-0: authorizing Director of Technology Brooks Moore to certify the district's compliance with House Bill 3834's cybersecurity training requirements; Lone Star Furnishings, LLC proposals for phase 2 furniture at Coder, Stuard and McCall elementaries under the 2019 bond; Varsity Spirit Fashion quotes for high school and middle school cheerleader and dance uniforms; and the engagement of the law firm Sneed, Vine & Perry, P.C. Assistant Superintendent Amber Crissey and instructional specialists reviewed professional learning community progress, and Director of Construction and Facilities Tyler Boswell gave a timeline of architect meetings. After an executive session from 8:25 to 9:20 p.m., the meeting adjourned at 9:22 p.m.
