School board approves the schematic design for the high school renovations, a development agreement with FG Aledo, and a slate of bond consultants as the budget tightens
Eleven action items passed 7-0, including the recapture attendance-credit agreement, a bank depository extension with First Financial Bank, network equipment from the 2023 bond, and the 2023-2024 meeting calendar.
The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Aug. 21, 2023, with all seven trustees present: Forrest Collins, Hoyt Harris, Zachary Tarrant, Jessica Brown, Jennifer Loftin, Jennifer Taylor and David Lear. Collins and Superintendent Susan Bohn each discussed the budget constraints following the most recent legislative session, and Lear discussed the district's communication to the community about them. The board commended four new members of the Bearcat Leadership Team. The consent agenda passed 7-0 and included the 2023-2024 appraisers and appraisal calendar, 4-H resolutions for Tarrant and Parker counties, off-campus PE sites and Public Information Act non-business days.
Joshua Cogburn of Huckabee Architects presented the proposed schematic design for the Aledo High School renovations and addition under the 2023 bond, which the board approved 7-0. The board also approved, each 7-0: Alpha Testing as materials testing consultant for Lynn McKinney Elementary; Teague Nall and Perkins as civil engineering consultant for the high school and agriculture barn expansion; a fire alarm replacement at McCall Elementary; re-keying of the district's interior and exterior doors; authority for the superintendent to execute a development agreement with FG Aledo; technology license and warranty renewals; district network equipment purchased with 2023 bond funds, presented by Director of Technology Brooks Moore; an extension of the bank depository contract with First Financial Bank; the agreement to purchase attendance credit under the state's recapture provisions, with authority delegated to the superintendent under Texas Education Code Section 11.1511(c)(4); an update to policy CE(Local) on the annual operating budget; and the 2023-2024 regular meeting dates.
Assistant Superintendent Amber Crissey discussed the 2023-2024 instructional focus; Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld updated the potential 2023-2024 tax rate and budget and discussed an interlocal agreement with the Property Casualty Alliance of Texas; Chief Facilities and Construction Officer Chris Campbell updated the bond projects and previewed Delta T and Huckabee as consultants; Deputy Superintendent Kim Raymond previewed Policy Update 121; and Moore previewed a Stuard Elementary public address system. An executive session on the superintendent's evaluation instrument and contract was posted.
