Every vote was 7-0. Harris, Loftin and Collins were re-elected as officers, and the growth committee reported that its teacher members felt heard.
The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met May 21, 2019, with all seven trustees present. The board and Superintendent Susan Bohn honored Trustee Bobby J. Rigues for his years of service, and the board secretary swore in Jennifer Taylor and Forrest Collins to Places 4 and 5. The Daniel Ninth Grade campus presented. The board commended the robotics team as a UIL state and FIRST world qualifier, VASE state qualifiers, the FFA horse judging team as a national qualifier, Duke TIP honorees, Vandagriff Elementary as a Capturing Kids' Hearts national showcase school, the Business Development Group of Aledo's business education partnership award, and two awards to the School Health Advisory Council, and welcomed a new Walsh Elementary principal, a new director of assessment and accountability and seven instructional specialists.
On the legislative subcommittee's recommendation, the board approved Resolution No. 05212019-1 regarding the state school finance system and local property taxes, 7-0; Bohn said meetings with lawmakers had been effective, especially with the Aledo Education Foundation and the East Parker Chamber present. Julie Turner reported the foundation's Don Daniel golf tournament was set for June 7. There were no public comments. The consent agenda, approved 6-0 during Vice President Jennifer Loftin's absence, included Region 11 contracts.
Bearcat Growth Committee co-chair Christi James and members reported the committee would meet with the community over the summer, with teacher members saying their input had been sought. Executive Director Scott Kessel gave the School Health Advisory Council's annual report and reviewed the grade point average and class rank policy changes proposed to phase in with the class of 2024, and Deputy Superintendent Lynn McKinney gave a first reading of Policy Update 112. When Loftin returned, the board approved the Aledo ISD Board Operating Procedures Manual, 7-0. Assistant Superintendent Amber Crissey reported strong implementation of the instructional focus, and special programs staff described inclusive services planned for the next year.
The board approved, each 7-0: student technology for Future Ready Aledo and student devices and Promethean boards from Dell and Apple totaling $317,525 with 2015 bond funds; Trane U.S. Inc. HVAC replacement units at Stuard Elementary, the Vandagriff rock gym, the high school agriculture building and the weight room with 2015 bond funds; four school buses from Rush Truck Centers with 2015 bond funds; and, after an executive session from 9:18 to 10:45 p.m., district datacenter and security upgrades. The board re-elected Hoyt Harris president, Loftin vice president and Collins secretary, each 7-0, and adjourned at 10:51 p.m.
