School board adopts its 2019 legislative priorities and charters the Bearcat Growth Committee as the education foundation delivers $131,000 in grants

The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Dec. 17, 2018, with all seven trustees present: President Hoyt Harris, Vice President Jennifer Loftin, Secretary Forrest Collins and Trustees David Lear, Bobby J. Rigues, Jessica Brown and Julie Turner. McCall Elementary's choir sang. The board commended three national FFA winners and honored Rigues as the Friends of Texas Public Schools' ambassador of the year, and Harris recognized the retiring executive director of assessment and accountability. Aledo Education Foundation executive director Shawn Callaway presented a check for $131,000 for innovative teaching grants. Rigues said the January legislative session would focus on school finance and property tax relief, and Collins reported on the Local Government Collaborative's meeting with State Representative Phil King. There were no public comments.
The consent agenda, approved 7-0, included the grant disbursement from the foundation. The board approved the Aledo ISD 2019 legislative priorities, 7-0, and the purpose, charge and membership of the 2019 Bearcat Growth Committee, 7-0.
Staff reported on instructional-focus implementation and district curriculum writing; Deputy Superintendent Lynn McKinney updated the District of Innovation process; Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld presented the School FIRST report, a Superior rating as for the past 13 years, and the planned assignment of fund balance for growth-related expenditures; Director of Facilities and Construction Tyler Boswell described a comprehensive facility assessment to be completed before any future construction decisions; Director of Communications Rick Herrin outlined the pre-bond communication plan; and Husfeld shared the timeline for the May 4, 2019, trustee election. After an executive session from 9:20 to 10:17 p.m., the meeting adjourned at 10:21 p.m.
