School board approves roof repairs at 13 facilities with 2015 bond funds, district-wide fencing, meal price increases and up to $90,000 in reading products, and denies a grievance

The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met July 15, 2019, with all seven trustees present. Forrest Collins reported that TEA was releasing a series of videos on House Bill 3. There were no public comments. The consent agenda, approved 7-0, included policy revisions on student travel, class ranking, grading reports and employment practices, and a foreign exchange student waiver.
Superintendent Susan Bohn reported that the Bearcat Growth Committee was awaiting certified values before assembling a bond package, with community meetings July 18 and 23 at Vandagriff Elementary, a final committee meeting Aug. 1, a presentation to the board Aug. 8 and an expected recommendation Aug. 19. Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld led the board through House Bill 3's implications for the budget and tax rate and reviewed 2015 bond expenditures; Trent Smith of Templeton Demographics presented the summer 2019 demographic report; Deputy Superintendent Lynn McKinney presented the 2018-2019 improvement plan evaluation, previewed Update 113, described the district's anti-vaping plan and its intent to extend random drug testing to all UIL and some other extracurricular activities; and Husfeld explained a proposed Lexia purchase for grades K-8.
After a recess, the board approved, each 7-0: Tri-Lam Roofing and Waterproofing Inc.'s proposals for roof repairs at the administration building, the security and technology building, the learning center, the high school, the Bearcat Stadium press box, the field house, the ninth grade campus, Aledo Middle School, McAnally Intermediate and the Coder, McCall, Stuard and Vandagriff elementaries with 2015 bond funds; Gladiator Fence Company, LLC's proposals for district-wide fence repair and replacement; 2019-2020 child nutrition meal price increases; and Heinemann reading products for grades K-2 not to exceed $90,000.00. After a closed session on a Level 3 hearing, the board voted 7-0 to deny the grievance filed April 17, 2019, then met in a second executive session until 10:40 p.m. with no action. The meeting adjourned at 10:44 p.m.
