School board accepts the Bearcat Growth Committee's bond recommendation and calls a bond election for Nov. 5, 2019
Every vote was 7-0. Policy Update 113, Lexia reading purchases and the recapture attendance-credit agreement passed on consent; random drug testing was widened; three residents spoke on tax rates and district successes.
The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Aug. 19, 2019, with all seven trustees present. The board recognized three Boys and Girls State participants. Forrest Collins reminded trustees of new training required by House Bill 403 on sexual abuse, human trafficking and other maltreatment of children. Three residents spoke, two on tax rates and one on the district's successes.
The consent agenda passed 7-0 and included policy revisions under Update 113, the purchase of Lexia Core5 Reading and Lexia PowerUp Literacy, the supplies vendor list, the T-TESS and T-PESS appraiser list and calendar, 4-H resolutions for Parker and Tarrant counties, and the agreement to purchase attendance credits under the state's recapture of funds.
Bearcat Growth Committee co-chairs Christi James and Jim Scott and committee members presented their recommendation, and the board approved the committee's recommendation for a 2019 bond program, 7-0. On Superintendent Susan Bohn's and Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld's request, the board then approved an order calling a bond election in the district on Nov. 5, 2019, 7-0. It also approved the 2019-2020 Student Code of Conduct, nominated Collins to the National School Boards Association's Advocacy Institute, and named Collins delegate and Jessica Brown alternate to TASB's 2019 delegate assembly, each 7-0.
Assistant Superintendent Amber Crissey reviewed the instructional focus and the district's state accountability ratings; Husfeld previewed the refunding of the 2007 and 2012 bonds; and Executive Director of Student Services Scott Kessel explained the wider range of student groups to be included in random drug testing. After an executive session from 7:43 to 8:26 p.m. on the superintendent's performance update, board duties and real property, the meeting adjourned at 8:28 p.m.
