The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met April 15, 2019, with Vice President Jennifer Loftin presiding and Secretary Forrest Collins and Trustees David Lear, Bobby J. Rigues and Jessica Brown present; Julie Turner joined at 9:29 p.m. Walsh Elementary presented. The board commended Stuard Elementary's Destination Imagination state team, two perfect ACT scores and HOSA state qualifiers, and recognized Weatherford College's 150th anniversary and its dual-credit partnership with the high school. Loftin reported that all trustees had exceeded their required training hours and that the education foundation's April 5 gala raised $30,204 for Future Ready Aledo. A resident spoke about handwriting in the curriculum.
After a closed session on two candidates, the board hired Holly Elgin as principal of Walsh Elementary and Candace Summerhill as director of assessment and accountability, each 5-0. The consent agenda passed 5-0.
The board approved, each 5-0: the Aledo ISD vision statement, Growing greatness through exceptional experiences that empower learners for life; an order authorizing the issuance and sale of Aledo ISD Unlimited Tax Refunding Bonds, Series 2019, and delegating authority for their sale; adoption under Proclamation 2019 of Texas myView Literacy from Pearson for grades K-5 and SpringBoard English Language Arts from the College Board for grades 6-8; and Firetrol Protection Systems' proposals for fire alarm systems at the high school, its ag building, Bearcat Stadium, Stuard Elementary and the auxiliary services building.
Assistant Superintendent Amber Crissey and curriculum specialists presented instructional data; a Bearcat Growth Committee member reviewed the committee's March and April meetings; a TASB representative presented the pay systems review; Loftin asked trustees to review the draft operating procedures manual; Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld said preliminary tax values were due in May and certified values July 25 and presented the fund balance report; staff presented the Future Ready Aledo instructional technology plan and the i3 cohort; and Executive Director Scott Kessel summarized the GPA survey results. After an executive session from 9:25 to 10:03 p.m., the meeting adjourned at 10:07 p.m.
