School board adopts a resolution on vouchers and school funding, hears Parker County's transportation bond pitch, and approves changes to the superintendent's contract
Policy Update 121, bond consultants for the new elementary and the high school furniture, a Stuard public address system and budget amendments all passed 6-0. The Bearcat Regiment marked 50 years.
The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Sept. 19, 2023, with Trustees Forrest Collins, Hoyt Harris, Jessica Brown, Jennifer Loftin, Jennifer Taylor and David Lear present. Superintendent Susan Bohn discussed the wellness centers, the Teacher Leadership Cohort, the Aledo Growth Committee, curriculum nights and homecoming, and celebrated the Bearcat Regiment band's 50-year anniversary. Lear discussed how a special session on school funding could affect the district, and Brown updated the 2023 bond projects.
Walsh Elementary presented on connecting with its community, and the board commended Stuard Elementary's fourth-grade team. Parker County Judge Pat Deen, Chris Bosco and Commissioner Mike Hale presented the county's proposed 2023 Transportation Improvement Bond Program. The consent agenda, approved 6-0, included credit-by-examination approvals and the memorandum of understanding with the Aledo Education Foundation.
The board approved, each 6-0: Resolution 09192023-1 regarding vouchers and school funding, presented by Bohn and the legislative subcommittee of Brown, Lear and Collins; Delta T as HVAC test and balancing consultant for Lynn McKinney Elementary and Huckabee Architects as furniture consultant for the high school and ninth grade furniture replacement, both 2023 bond items presented by Chief Facilities and Construction Officer Chris Campbell; Board Policy Update 121, ten local policies covering inventories, security personnel and commissioned peace officers, maintenance, unemployment insurance, competitive bidding and sealed proposals, the compensation plan, admissions and freedom from bullying; a public address system replacement for Stuard Elementary, presented by Director of Technology Brooks Moore; the 2023-2024 School Health Advisory Council appointees; and amendments to the 2023-2024 general fund budget.
Assistant Superintendent Amber Crissey reviewed the 2023-2024 instructional focus and Director of Advanced Academics and CTE Angie Wilkinson gave a college, career and military readiness update; Assistant Superintendent Ingia Saxton discussed the district improvement plan goals; Campbell updated the bond projects; and Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld gave public notice of the 2023-2024 federal grant applications. After an executive session on the superintendent's performance update, contract and evaluation instrument, and on security devices and safety audits, the board approved changes to the superintendent's contract, 6-0.
