Meeting by video, the board signs a Tarleton State partnership, buys $183,180 in band uniforms, hears the bond sale went well, and re-elects its officers after a split vote on vice president

The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met by video conference May 18, 2020, with all seven trustees present. On the superintendent's report, Executive Director of Student Services Scott Kessel presented a memorandum of understanding with Tarleton State University, and Tarleton's vice president for external operations and Fort Worth campus dean expressed the university's excitement; the board approved the MOU 7-0. Superintendent Susan Bohn thanked the departing communications director. Forrest Collins said the legislative subcommittee had written local representatives on local control, funding, internet access, charter expansion and STAAR changes. Jessica Brown reported on the bond subcommittee's meetings with PBK and Huckabee, Bond Progress Committee chairman Matt Morris and two members reported, and Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld said the day's bond sale had gone well.
The board secretary swore in Julie Turner, Place 6, and Hoyt Harris, Place 7. The board recognized a new high school principal and director of special programs, the 2020 Marva Collins award recipients, Vandagriff Elementary as a Capturing Kids' Hearts national showcase school, and a U.S. Naval Academy appointee. There were no public comments. The consent agenda, approved 7-0, included the April 20, May 5 and May 7 minutes and Board Policy Update 114.
The board approved, each 7-0: the engagement of Kirk & Richardson, P.C. for the audit of the fiscal year ending Aug. 31, 2020; the E-Rate resolution for 2020-2021 with Netsync Network Solutions' proposal; and Fred J. Miller, Inc.'s quote for new Aledo High School band uniforms in the amount of $183,180. Bohn said a June 11 workshop would take up fall reopening; Assistant Superintendent Amber Crissey and specialists reviewed professional learning community progress and the inaugural i3 cohort; Kessel gave the School Health Advisory Council's annual report; Trent Smith of Templeton Demographics presented the spring 2020 demographic update and COVID-19's effect on projections; and Kessel and Crissey presented a shared-space plan for Aledo Middle School and McAnally Intermediate.
After an executive session from 9:35 to 11:25 p.m. that included board officer reorganization, the board re-elected Harris president, 7-0; a nomination of David Lear for vice president failed 3-4; Jennifer Loftin was elected vice president, 7-0; and Collins secretary, 7-0. The meeting adjourned at 11:35 p.m.
