School board approves a student device purchase, pays staff for bad-weather days, and previews a land donation and drainage easement to Parker County
No one spoke at the 2024-2025 Texas Academic Performance Report hearing. Soccer coach Derek Vierling's 600th win and five counselors' Crest Awards were among the commendations.
The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Feb. 16, 2026, with all seven trustees present. President Forrest Collins celebrated the wrestling and basketball teams. Superintendent Susan Bohn thanked the community for its understanding of the weather-affected school schedule, celebrated the swim team and the Bearcat Regiment's invitation to the TMEA awards, and recognized soccer coach Derek Vierling for his 600th win. Vice President David Lear shared how to vote in the election under way, and Trustee Zachary Tarrant reported on the Aledo Growth Committee's conceptual designs for future high school space.
Coder Elementary presented, and the board commended the campus's first-grade team, the month's Bearcats of Character, an Aledo Education Foundation teacher grant, five TMEA All-State 5A band members, five counselors who received Texas Counseling Association Crest Awards, and the Texas Girls Coaches Association's 5A-6A cross country athlete of the year. No one spoke during public comment.
The consent agenda passed 7-0 and included a class size waiver, a joint election agreement and contract for election services with the Parker County elections administrator for the May 2, 2026, trustee election, authorization for the superintendent to enter a joint election agreement with the Tarrant County elections administrator, the library procurement list recommended by the School Library Advisory Council, a missed school days waiver, and a resolution paying staff for bad weather days. The board's one action item, the purchase of student devices presented by Chief Technology Officer Brooks Moore, passed 7-0.
Collins opened a public hearing on the 2024-2025 Texas Academic Performance Report, presented by Director of Assessment and Accountability Candace Summerhill; no member of the public commented. Assistant Superintendent Amber Crissey and Summerhill shared middle-of-year screener data; Moore discussed a potential iPad purchase for teachers; Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld presented the 2026-2027 budget development process and calendar and a report of cooperative purchasing management fees and rebates; and Chief Facilities and Construction Officer Caleb Bell discussed two resolutions for March, one authorizing the donation of real property from the district to Parker County and one authorizing a drainage easement for highway purposes to the county. The board met in executive session from 7:38 to 8:29 p.m. on the superintendent's performance update, consultation with its attorney, real property and a student matter, and adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
