EDC replaces its grant programs with the Aledo Community Enhancement grant and approves the Your Personal Chef agreement after a hearing

The Aledo Economic Development Corporation board met May 26, 2026, at the Aledo Municipal Complex with President Shane Davis and members Amanda Wimpee, Matthew Pruitt and Ryan Hays present. After a public hearing at which no one spoke, the board unanimously approved the Your Personal Chef economic development agreement; City Manager Candice Edmondson said the board had approved it at the previous meeting but a hearing was required, and that the City Council had approved it on first reading.

Community Services Director Erika Cooper-Bateman presented a Building Improvement Grant program developed from the board's feedback to replace the existing incentive programs with a single framework. After Edmondson led a discussion of names, the board settled on the Aledo Community Enhancement (ACE) Grant Program and unanimously approved the updated incentive program under that name.

Edmondson presented a draft public art policy, explaining that the ACE program's public art option is limited to matching grants up to $10,000, which suits smaller projects, while the proposed Aledo Public Art Program would create a broader framework for larger installations and partnerships among the city, the EDC, businesses, developers and property owners. The item was for discussion, and the board asked that a resolution come back for formal consideration.

The council approved the first reading of an economic development incentive agreement with Your Personal Chef, which applied to the city's Infrastructure Rebate Program for a rebate equal to 50% of new sales tax generated over five years as it expands its building footprint to expand daily food offerings. No one spoke at the hearing. On the consent agenda the council approved an interlocal agreement with Parker County for library services, the city's membership in the Texas Municipal League, and the April 2 minutes.

With about $3.2 million in reserves, the EDC board weighs marketing, public art and land acquisition for FY27

In a work session on the budget, City Manager Candice Edmondson reviewed the current FY26 budget and initial considerations for FY27, noting an opportunity to weigh increased funding for events and incentive programs. Following the recent audit the city reported a strong fund balance including approximately $3.2 million in cash reserves, which she said allows consideration of strategic investments such as capital projects, land acquisition and incentive agreements. Davis relayed community feedback seeking more marketing and public art, and the board discussed supporting a comprehensive marketing campaign for Aledo, possibly through a professional marketing firm.

Edmondson presented the Your Personal Chef incentive agreement, which she said aligns with the terms the board discussed in March and in which the City Council has approved participation; the agreement requires public hearings before both the council and the EDC and two council readings. The board voted unanimously on the item. No executive session was held.

Council awards a $714,971 FM 1187 landscaping contract, rezones 2 Dean Drive to regional commercial, and adopts the design standards manual

The council met in executive session from 7:22 to 8:32 p.m. on the posted topics of the Dean Ranch development conversation, Grand Prairie v. State, Aledo and Fort Worth v. Willow Park, a library agreement with Parker County, downtown development, and a Your Personal Chef rebate infrastructure agreement, and adjourned at 8:32 p.m.

EDC board workshops its incentive programs with the Texas Economic Development Council and moves the Your Personal Chef rebate forward

Staff reviewed the EDC's current incentives, the Facade Improvement Grant, the Sign Matching Grant and the Infrastructure Rebate Program, and their application-to-reimbursement process, and discussed merging the facade and sign programs into a single application. Staff also presented incentive examples from Saginaw, Southlake, Wolfforth and Harlingen, including lighting and parking improvements, pedestrian amenities, demolition assistance and public art, and will bring back a draft of a revised program.

The board voted unanimously to move forward with the rebate requested by Your Personal Chef. City Manager Candice Edmondson said she had confirmed with the owner that the expansion will increase the business's assessed value by 50%, and the request is for a rebate of up to 50% of new sales tax.

In staff updates, Community Services Director Erika Cooper-Bateman recapped the Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee's Feb. 17 kickoff, where the consultant led a visioning exercise and SWOT analysis around community character, growth management, downtown revitalization and connectivity, and targeted economic development; the committee will meet nine times, with public engagement in person and through the plan's website. Laura Weber reported that Aledo was selected as a 2026 cohort city for the Texas Historical Commission's First Street Initiative, joining 23 other communities, with quarterly meetings over the next year. The board met in executive session from 7:48 to 8:03 p.m. on Chapter 380 agreements with Jakes Burgers, Press Cafe and Dayne's Craft Barbecue, took no action, and adjourned at 8:04 p.m.

School board approves a student device purchase, pays staff for bad-weather days, and previews a land donation and drainage easement to Parker County

Collins opened a public hearing on the 2024-2025 Texas Academic Performance Report, presented by Director of Assessment and Accountability Candace Summerhill; no member of the public commented. Assistant Superintendent Amber Crissey and Summerhill shared middle-of-year screener data; Moore discussed a potential iPad purchase for teachers; Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld presented the 2026-2027 budget development process and calendar and a report of cooperative purchasing management fees and rebates; and Chief Facilities and Construction Officer Caleb Bell discussed two resolutions for March, one authorizing the donation of real property from the district to Parker County and one authorizing a drainage easement for highway purposes to the county. The board met in executive session from 7:38 to 8:29 p.m. on the superintendent's performance update, consultation with its attorney, real property and a student matter, and adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
