Aledo Council Chambers, 200 Old Annetta Road

Allen and Poston are sworn in, the Shaw Ranch preliminary plat clears with 103 lots, and a manufactured-home zoning district is created for Senate Bill 785

The council also gave first-reading approval to a sales-tax rebate for Your Personal Chef, appointed four planning commissioners and the first Library Advisory Board, and let a petition to leave the city's extraterritorial jurisdiction die for lack of a motion.

The Aledo City Council met May 7, 2026, at 200 Old Annetta Road with Mayor Shane Davis, Mayor Pro Tem Shawna Ford and Councilmembers Ben Clark and Summer Jones present; Councilmember Todd Covington arrived during the executive session. The council unanimously approved Resolution No. 2026-R-09 ratifying the results of the March 31, 2026, special election and declaring Melanie Allen elected to Place 4. City Manager Candice Edmondson presented Ford with a plaque in appreciation of her service, and City Secretary Staci King administered the oath of office to Matt Poston, Place 3, and Melanie Allen, Place 4.

The council unanimously approved the preliminary plat of Shaw Ranch, 36.153 acres in the L.R. Fawks Survey, Abstract 483, northeast of Rolling Hills Drive and Scenic Drive, with 103 residential lots of roughly 7,000 to 16,000 square feet and three open-space lots on land zoned R-1 Single-Family. Grant Fore of the Berkley Group said the Planning and Zoning Commission had recommended approval unanimously on April 9, subject to the applicant, TNP Engineering, addressing all city review comments, and that all comments had been addressed.

After a public hearing at which no one spoke, the council unanimously approved Ordinance No. 2026-O-17 creating a Manufactured Home (MH) zoning district. Fore said Texas Senate Bill 785, adopted in the 2025-2026 legislative session and effective Sept. 1, 2026, requires non-discretionary permitting and by-right zoning for HUD-code manufactured homes, and that the city's code had no dedicated district for them; the new residential district allows HUD-code manufactured homes on individual lots or in manufactured home communities.

The council approved the first reading of an economic development incentive agreement with Your Personal Chef, which applied to the city's Infrastructure Rebate Program for a rebate equal to 50% of new sales tax generated over five years as it expands its building footprint to expand daily food offerings. No one spoke at the hearing. On the consent agenda the council approved an interlocal agreement with Parker County for library services, the city's membership in the Texas Municipal League, and the April 2 minutes.

Appointments: Rebecca Griffith (Place 1), Ryan Henning (Place 4), Derek Sellers (Place 5) and Jeff Streetman (Alternate 2) to the Planning and Zoning Commission, and Pam Christiansen, Rhonda Cooper, Rachel Malone, Amanda Streetman and Melissa Handley, with alternates Kit Marshall and James Hollis, to the Library Advisory Board, with Handley as chair. The appointment of a municipal judge was tabled. In staff presentations, Laura Weber said this year's Summer Blast spotlight sponsors are HEB, KB Home, Magnaflow Environmental, Steele and Freeman and UTA West, with Myser Orthodontics sponsoring the Kid Zone, and that Freese and Nichols will gather comprehensive-plan input at the event. Library Director Beck Gorman said checkouts are up 50% to 78% a month over last year and new card registrations up 68% to 203% a month, and that the library hosted 46 programs with approximately 1,500 attendees last summer.

The council held two executive sessions, 6:34 to 7:24 p.m. on the municipal judge and the commission and board appointments, and 7:48 to 8:49 p.m. on the posted topics of the Dean Ranch development conversation, Grand Prairie v. State, Aledo and Fort Worth v. Willow Park, a petition for release from the extraterritorial jurisdiction, the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements grant program, FM 1187 utility infrastructure funding, and downtown development. On reconvening, Davis entertained a motion to approve a petition for release from the city's extraterritorial jurisdiction for 10450 East Bankhead Highway; no motion was made and no action was taken. The meeting adjourned at 8:51 p.m.
