Aledo Municipal Court: the judge's contract, the interviews and the appointment

Council rejects the golf cart and e-bike ordinance in favor of education first, and appoints Cass Callaway municipal judge

The council unanimously approved Resolution No. 2026-R-11 appointing Cass Robert Callaway chief municipal judge of the Aledo Municipal Court and approving a professional services agreement.

After an executive session from 6:49 to 7:30 p.m. on the Dean Ranch development, Aledo and Fort Worth v. Willow Park, the municipal judge appointment and downtown development, with no action taken, Davis read a proclamation recognizing the Aledo High School baseball team, which won the Class 5A Division I state title on June 5, 2026, the school's third state baseball title, under head coach Chad Barry. City Manager Candice Edmondson said the city's new website is scheduled to launch July 20 and updated the council on remaining construction at City Hall. The meeting adjourned at 7:35 p.m.

Council interviews municipal judge candidates and directs the city manager to open contract negotiations

The council recessed into executive session at 5 p.m. for municipal court judge interviews under the personnel provisions of the Open Meetings Act and returned to open session at 7:30 p.m. It then instructed City Manager Candice Edmondson to initiate contract negotiations for a municipal court judge as discussed in executive session. The meeting adjourned at 7:35 p.m.

Allen and Poston are sworn in, the Shaw Ranch preliminary plat clears with 103 lots, and a manufactured-home zoning district is created for Senate Bill 785

Appointments: Rebecca Griffith (Place 1), Ryan Henning (Place 4), Derek Sellers (Place 5) and Jeff Streetman (Alternate 2) to the Planning and Zoning Commission, and Pam Christiansen, Rhonda Cooper, Rachel Malone, Amanda Streetman and Melissa Handley, with alternates Kit Marshall and James Hollis, to the Library Advisory Board, with Handley as chair. The appointment of a municipal judge was tabled. In staff presentations, Laura Weber said this year's Summer Blast spotlight sponsors are HEB, KB Home, Magnaflow Environmental, Steele and Freeman and UTA West, with Myser Orthodontics sponsoring the Kid Zone, and that Freese and Nichols will gather comprehensive-plan input at the event. Library Director Beck Gorman said checkouts are up 50% to 78% a month over last year and new card registrations up 68% to 203% a month, and that the library hosted 46 programs with approximately 1,500 attendees last summer.

The council held two executive sessions, 6:34 to 7:24 p.m. on the municipal judge and the commission and board appointments, and 7:48 to 8:49 p.m. on the posted topics of the Dean Ranch development conversation, Grand Prairie v. State, Aledo and Fort Worth v. Willow Park, a petition for release from the extraterritorial jurisdiction, the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements grant program, FM 1187 utility infrastructure funding, and downtown development. On reconvening, Davis entertained a motion to approve a petition for release from the city's extraterritorial jurisdiction for 10450 East Bankhead Highway; no motion was made and no action was taken. The meeting adjourned at 8:51 p.m.

Council updates Fort Worth impact-fee pass-throughs, renews the mountain bike club's trail agreement, and ends the municipal judge's contract

The council met in executive session from 6:19 to 7:45 p.m. on the posted topics of the Dean Ranch development, Grand Prairie v. State, Aledo and Fort Worth v. Willow Park, the Siegmund easement agreement, municipal court, downtown development, and a personnel matter concerning the municipal judge. On reconvening, it voted unanimously to terminate the contract with the municipal judge, as discussed in executive session. On the consent agenda it approved the Feb. 5 minutes and Resolution No. 2026-R-06 amending access to the city's safe deposit box at First Financial Bank. The meeting adjourned at 7:48 p.m.
