School board hires a construction manager at risk for the high school project, tables the improvement plan and reviews the intruder detection audit

Sterling Naron was nominated to the Parker County Appraisal District board, 5-0; no one was nominated for Tarrant's. A National Merit semifinalist and seven commended students were recognized.

The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Oct. 23, 2023, with Trustees Forrest Collins, Zachary Tarrant, Jennifer Loftin, Jennifer Taylor and David Lear present. Superintendent Susan Bohn discussed the November ballot, the district's flu shot clinics and extracurricular achievements. Lear discussed the special session and the implications of its agenda for school funding.

Aledo Middle School presented. The board commended a National Merit semifinalist, seven National Merit commended students and the high school's AP World History team. The consent agenda, approved 5-0, included a class size waiver and a replacement appointee to the School Health Advisory Committee.

The board tabled the 2023-2024 District Improvement Plan. It voted 5-0 to hire the firm the minutes name as Authers Billing Group as construction manager at risk for the Aledo High School additions and renovations under the 2023 bond, presented by Chief Facilities and Construction Officer Chris Campbell, and 5-0 to nominate Sterling Naron to the Parker County Appraisal District board of directors. No motion was made to nominate anyone to the Tarrant Appraisal District board.

In communication items, career and technical education and agriculture staff reported on the growth of their programs; Campbell updated the bond projects and previewed acoustical panels for the Vandagriff gym and playground equipment for McKinney and Stuard elementaries; Director of Technology Brooks Moore previewed bond-funded security cameras and reported on the student information and enterprise resource systems planning committee; Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld shared the cooperative purchasing fees and rebates report; Bohn outlined the 2024 Attendance Zone Committee process for McKinney Elementary's opening; and Chief of Police Fred Collie and Deputy Superintendent Kim Raymond discussed the district's intruder detection audit report. Executive session items included the superintendent's performance update and evaluation instrument and, under the security provisions of the Open Meetings Act, security devices and safety audits.
