Four trustees authorize the Series 2015A bonds, award the controlled-entry contracts, approve the Coder design and a Morningstar water and sewer easement, in a meeting that ran past midnight
The superintendent laid out the choice for Elementary No. 5: north would change attendance zones, south would cost more in utilities. Every vote was 4-0.
The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met July 20, 2015, with President Jay Stringer, Secretary Steve Bartley, Bobby J. Rigues and Dr. David Tillman present. Superintendent Derek Citty previewed the new year and introduced a new high school assistant principal. Stringer discussed committee assignments, the board self-evaluation and goals workshop, Team of Eight training and the 2015-2016 board calendar, all to return in August, and Citty proposed moving his evaluation to October; Rigues suggested a mid-year progress report. Citty reported the foundation's golf classic raised more than $56,000 and that the foundation would help make playgrounds accessible; Jennifer Loftin had resigned from the foundation's board on her election. Two residents spoke, on teacher salaries and the foreign exchange cap.
The board approved the June 15 and 16 minutes, 4-0, and the June 3 minutes with the vote on Vandagriff's assistant principal corrected to 5-0, 4-0. Deputy Superintendent Lynn McKinney reported parent survey participation of 21% and teacher participation of 89%; Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld set a budget workshop for Aug. 3 and adoption for Aug. 24; and Citty said building Elementary No. 5 in the north would affect attendance zones while building south would add utility costs, with Leesa Vardeman of VLK Architects presenting the Coder Elementary controlled-entry schematic design.
After a recess, the board approved, each 4-0: localized Policy Update 102; the order authorizing Unlimited Tax Bonds, Series 2015A, with sale parameters, a bond purchase contract and an official statement; the best-value proposal for controlled entries at Vandagriff Elementary, Stuard Elementary, McAnally Intermediate and Aledo Middle School; the Coder schematic design; Rigues as TASA/TASB delegate with Tillman as alternate; storage area network equipment; and the nomination of Dr. Ann Calahan to the TASB board's Region 11 Position D. After an executive session from 10:30 p.m. to 12:38 a.m. on July 21, it authorized the superintendent to proceed as discussed on the Morningstar development's water and sewer easement request, 4-0, and approved Jake Bean as Aledo Middle School assistant principal, 4-0. The meeting adjourned at 12:39 a.m.
