School board adopts its priorities for the 89th Legislature and celebrates a Superior financial rating and a state marching band finish

The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Dec. 16, 2024, with Trustees Forrest Collins, Zachary Tarrant, Jeremy Pruett, Jim Scott, Jennifer Taylor and David Lear present; Hoyt Harris joined at 6:21 p.m. The Aledo High School choir performed. Collins explained what a board meeting is and how to reach the board and district leadership. Superintendent Susan Bohn thanked the PTO and businesses for holiday donations and noted the instructional calendar was open for community feedback. Lear reported on the legislative subcommittee ahead of the session, and Tarrant on the district's work to acquire land for facilities.
Coder Elementary presented, and the board commended the district's Superior rating in the School FIRST financial integrity system for 2023-2024, the month's Bearcats of Character, the McAnally and Aledo Middle School bands as national winners and Citation of Excellence recipients through the Foundation for Music Education, with McAnally also TMEA State 2C Honor Band runner-up, the Aledo High School band's fifth-place finish at the UIL state marching contest, the percussion ensemble's international competition win, the choir's national award, ag advocacy state qualifiers, the Ladycat volleyball team as state bronze medalists, academic all-state honorees, and Stuard Elementary's kindergarten team.
The consent agenda passed 7-0 and included an interlocal agreement to join the Region 10 Education Service Center multi-region purchasing cooperative. The board approved, each 7-0, the purchase of district secure key boxes, presented by Chief Facilities and Construction Officer Chris Campbell, and the district's 89th Legislative Session priorities, presented by Bohn with the legislative subcommittee of Collins, Lear and Scott.
Assistant Superintendent Amber Crissey reviewed progress on the district instructional focus and Science Coordinator Michelle Yates gave a science update; Campbell updated the 2023 bond projects; and Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld updated the general fund and presented the School FIRST report. Executive session items included the superintendent's performance update, real property and, under the security provisions of the Open Meetings Act, the district vulnerability assessment.
