School board votes to pursue District of Innovation status and appoints its committee, and the superintendent says a November 2019 bond election is likely
Every vote was 7-0, and no one spoke at the District of Innovation hearing. The K-8 reading materials adoption committee was also named, and Policy Update 111 passed on consent.
The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees met Oct. 15, 2018, with all seven trustees present. Coder Elementary presented. The board commended the middle school bands and high school wind ensemble for Mark of Excellence honors and its National Merit students, and Assistant Superintendent Amber Crissey introduced a new instructional technology specialist. President Hoyt Harris urged attendance at the Oct. 24 Make Education a Priority event. Julie Turner reported the education foundation had awarded $12,000 in fast cash grants. A resident spoke about the District of Innovation from his perspective.
The board approved a resolution to consider designation as a District of Innovation, 7-0, and held a public hearing on it from 7:50 to 7:51 p.m. with no discussion. The consent agenda, approved 7-0, included policy FFAC(Local) on medical treatment and TASB Policy Update 111. The board then approved the 2018-2019 K-8 English language arts and reading instructional materials adoption committee and the District of Innovation committee, each 7-0.
Staff presented daily impact walk data and the recent professional learning day; Chief Financial Officer Earl Husfeld and Superintendent Susan Bohn previewed the Oct. 17 facilities workshop, and Bohn said the district was probably heading toward a November 2019 bond election; and Crissey outlined the Proclamation 2019 adoption timeline for K-8 English language arts and reading. After an executive session from 8:35 to 10:14 p.m., the meeting adjourned at 10:20 p.m.
